I've read the others, but not sure if I'm going to read the new one. They take forever to read!!
Let me know if you read it.

I'm trying to slog my way through Painted Caves. I've read a good solid inch of pages and they've barely made it to the umpteenth summer meeting in the series where Ayla is once again saving the day for various and sundry people.
I'm kind of over the series. My sister calls them the caveman sex books.

Well, the caveman sex is kinda the only reason to read it!
I may read when it comes out in paperback, it's too freaking heavy to read it now in hardcover.
I need a Nook, I asked for one for my birthday, we shall see...
Meanwhile, I'll probably read it in bits of pieces at the bookstore in the meantime. Don't tell NA - she'll probably ban me for reading w/out buying.

In my opinion, the last book in the series represents a SERIOUS decline in writing. It just wasn't a good book. The rest of the series is very good, though.
I was highly disappointed with this book.

I loved the first book but found they got progressively less interesting. Not sure if I am going to read the last one. Maybe I will wait until the library gets a copy.

I agree with this. I have all of the books except the last one (Painted Caves), but I havent read it yet. I am just not interested, but will probably buy it eventually just to complete the set...

Clan of the Cave Bear was a good read and I liked the movie too. But the rest just became good doorstops to me.

Clan of the Cave Bear (book and movie) was fantastic.
Each sequel got progressively less meaty, while simultaneously progressively more flowery in the descriptions of non-key items.
Ugh...

I bought Painted Caves and I am reading it...
More because I read all the other ones and less because it's a good read. But I am finding that I can't put it down.
So I'll be done soon. 1/2 way thru now.

I read it, and if you are close to your dday you may be triggered.
Anyway, I was glad the sex scenes were toned down some because in previous novels they were awfully repetitive, almost like a cut'n'paste job.
Was it a great novel? No, but she promised us a last one and we finally got it. Not to do spoilers, but the visitors near the end were a little too much to be believed.
Thank goodness the wait is over and I can obsess about something else now.

I read the whole series, except Land of the Painted Caves. I loved the firt two or so, but then it kept getting progressively worse. Not sure that I'll bother with this last one, I may just wait until it's in our local library.
One a sidenote, DD read the series, too, and she loved it. As long as she doesn't find out the final book is out, we're good. LOL

I read Jean's first three when I was far too young to be reading her. But loved her. Felt like the last few were as good as the others.
But I recently picked up The Land of the Painted Caves and was captivated again.

I was left wanting.
I felt like she onl wrote this book to end the series.
Very repetitive of the last 3. No suprises. No new story line. Nothing. I was soooo disapointed. I knew 6months before when the release date was and saved up to buy the book...ended up getting it the weekend after the relase.
I even put it on my calendar.
So disapointed.

I've read the first books in the series. I thought Auel did a pretty good job with the "historical fiction" and had done some research for the Clan of the Cave Bear, and the Mammoth Hunters, as others have mentioned, the story line got weaker.
I'll probably read the last one, but wait until paper back.
Hmmm maybe I'll reread the Clan of the Cave Bear....but not the others!

Worst Ending EVER!!!!
What a waste....
And I skimmed parts because I just couldn't keep reading lists of things over and over and over again...
And where was the sex... Damn... I read the first 3 or 4 books just for the juicey cave man sex...
Oh well... I've read it, finished the series and I'm done.
