Has anyone read this trilogy by Phillip Pullman? I'm helping a friend's daughter with a report on Northern Lights and have been kind of sucked in. I'm not really a fiction reader.

I find them pretty interesting...at least what I've read. Just wondered. Hear so much about Harry Potter and Twilight. I thought these were actually better. At least to me.

I read them a few years ago. I thought the series improved significantly with the second book because I really felt like the main character in the first book was one of those "Things happen to me and it makes me special" people. The introduction of the next main character in the second book kept me hooked until the end.

I can see why it's unpopular because of the theme, and the last book started to feel a bit preachy but it was on the whole fun and interesting, I thought.

Wonderful trilogy. I think his writing is a bit more complicated than Harry Potter and Twilight. It doesn't seem like it's all about the characters - the story is so much bigger. I like how he handled the themes, even though they're controversial.

ETA: How did the report go?
