PM me here if you want to be friends.
It nagged him, in particular, that none of the girls he’d known so far had given him a sense of unalloyed triumph.

I joined but need to go back to see recommendations
Basically, you click off the books you like and the site uses that to rec other books
How does it work to be friends? Do you rec to each other?

You really just see one another's activity, if you have any. I just feel dorky having anything other than zero friends or at least a handful of them.
If you set up your categories and shelves right you get good recommendations. I also like the site from an architectural point of view. It's doing something really right in terms of interpreting your tags, the books you've rated highly, elucidating patterns you didn't even realize were there, and then also other user's lists are so interesting and help you understand what you like. I didn't realize, for example, that I tend to like books where interaction is based heavily in correspondence until Good Reads told me I did, and then it was like duh, obviously.
Only negative is that the most active population seems to be YA romance, followed by YA fantasy. I had to figure out how to get rid of those recs since like everyone else I have read Hunger Games. Past that, it's pretty equally balanced between fantasy and romance, not a strong scifi contingent.
Also a lot of authors are heavy users, and I find that, quite sensibly, people who write books I like also tend to read books I will like.

I'm on it, but I haven't updated in a few months. I keep forgetting to.
PM coming. Maybe knowing you're looking and posting will keep me updating my own shelf.
