It's about how our culture favors extraverts and assumes they will be better leaders but many top companies who have the best growth actually have introverts as CEOs. It goes into biology (many species have both introverts adn extraverts) and physiology (introverts handle dopamine differently so they get less buzz from the promise of a reward so they take less risks) and the history of the US - how we went from valuing character to valuing personality.

It's fascinating.

I made peace with being an introvert long ago. I hated being told I was 'shy', which sounds like I'm afraid or have a problem. I just get a lot out of life from being quiet that other people miss. And I'm capable of public speaking and promoting myself when I need to.

It was so great to read (actually i listened to the audiobook) a book that I relate to so much.

And it doesn't bash extraverts at all. It's about valuing everyones' contribution.

Highly recommended!

I'm reading this book now, after watching Cain's Ted Talk and seeing it on the NYT Bestseller List for months. It is great, and it's changed the way I think about so many things. I'm an introvert, which was not valued in my family. I was always the "smart" one, and my brothers were the "sociable" ones.

Interestingly, I went on to marry a real extrovert to compensate. And here I am, sixteen years later, on!

I want to make sure I don't do the same thing to my own daughter, who is a sweet, well-adjusted introvert. She's perfect, just the way she is.

Will put this on my reading list. My mom was an introvert. Not shy, but a little reticent. Very smart. She always said, you don't learn while talking. You learn while listening. Have to remind myself of that more.
