Hello All, I am looking for a book to read with my kids (ages 16-10) on the topic of awareness/realizations.
Kind of a spiritual/truth book (NOT religious, BTDT), but general life truths about communicating, about taking responsibility for your own thoughts/feelings (ie, no one MAKES you do something in anger, you choose how to react/respond to others, you do have control over yourself and your reaction/response)
I hope this makes sense what I am looking for.
I was hoping for a format that we could read a bit each day and then discuss to help these things sink in and become a part of our family dynamics, so if anyone knows of a book, series, whathaveyou, along these lines I would greatly appreciate the info.

We have a tendency to think the love offered us is a reflection of our worth and value. But in actuality,it's a reflection of the person that is giving it.We love out of who WE are-not because of who the receiver is.At least in terms of real love.TSMF

In the public library, there is usually a person assigned to the Young Adult section. You might call the local library and describe what you are looking for and ask for recommendations.

The Four Agreements sounds like it would fit the bill. Not necessarily written for children but if you read it together and discussed each section I think it would be a great jumping off point
Go softly my sweet friend. You will always be a part of who I am.

Strangely enough The Host from Stephenie Meyer might be a good fit.
Try it out

My kids have to read the 10 habits of highly effective teens. (Public school, so not preachy)
I would recommend it. It has a lot of questions, discussion points in the back that can really launch them on the right path.

This may not be in the vein of "kids" specifically but I like "anger" by Thich Naht Hahn. The first part is focussed on why not to eat meat, which I felt didn't apply to me, but the rest of it is really good for simple life lessons and why anger is so destructiveness. The whole concept of mindfulness is very good, I would think, for a teen.
