I used to be an avid reader but life has gotten in the way.

I'll be away for 4 days starting tomorrow afternoon and expect a lot of downtime.

Anyone have any recommendations for a recent sci-fi or horror author or book?

Stephen King.

ETA: Oh wait, you said recent. Nevermind.

I stopped reading scary stuff after a bunch of Stephen King novels as a teen made me too afraid to be alone that I would make my mom stand outside the bathroom while I pee'd. Every time. For like 3 weeks. After that I decided I should stick to fluffier stuff.

Yeah, I loved Stephen King. Read the Stand multiple times.

I also liked Clive Barker, but his "tamer" stuff. Not Hellraiser, but The Great and Secret Show, Imajaca, Weaveworld. But he ruined it with Mister B.Gone. I almost never don't finish a book, and that one I just could not force myself through. It was awful.

I thought the Strain Trilogy by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan was a fun read. Definitely a different spin on vampires than Twilight.

I just read a book that was a first book for the author. I enjoyed it immensely. Sci-Fi suspense, post apocaliptic.

A Long Long Sleep. Author Anna Sheehan, and it's a cheepy on Kindle.
