I couldn't put this down. The book is about a child with a cranio facial deformity attending middle school for the first time. It is told from the POV of several characters, and truly catches the essence of middle school kids, their cruelty, their kindness and their insecurities. Simply beautiful...

I LOVED THAT BOOK.

I read it and then gave it to DS #1 to read. It was such a great experience for us-- we had terrific discussions about how the main character was treated and why others felt the way they did about him. I immediately recommended it to basically every person I know who loves reading. I teach HS, but if I taught middle school, I would teach that in a second.

I'm going to look for it. Sounds like something I'd definitely like to read.

DS, you are forever in my heart. Thank you for sharing your beautiful spirit with me. I will always try to live by the example you have set. I love you and miss you every day and am sorry you had to go so soon, it just doesn't seem fair.

Our entire middle school read this at the beginning of the year. Teachers read to their homerooms. Kids and teachers really enjoyed it.

“When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind.”

^^This was the theme for the year. It really was amazing.

Is this a new book? Or is it the book that the movie Mask with Cher did in the 1980's was based off of?

My DD 13 is looking for a new good book.

Wonder is a new book. I would definitely reocmmend it for your daughter.

Also, if she hasn't read it already, she might enjoy "Hope Was Here" or "Close to Famous" by Joan Bauer

Great thanks for the rec's. Vacation starts next week, and reading will be a big part of her summer.
