I was reading another thread hen someone posted about using their "shift" key...it got me wondering how many people here use computers vs a mobile device?

I use my iPhone. I won't pay to have Internet for a computer anymore (since BIL ran up the bill using the internet to play online games through the PS3). The computer is also so old it would take hours of updates just to get it to work properly...

I access the internet thru both my Blackberry and Macbook Air...

But then, I don't have anyone in the house to run up internet bills in anyway.

I prefer hard wired desktops. We have three desktops, and our laptop (which is also hardwired) is what we use as a cable box. We do not pay for cable, everything is downloaded or off of Netflix. I play WoW, and my characters are macro'd to high hell, so I use and abuse my shift key.

The only thing wireless in our home are our smart phones, Kindle, and a Roku. I talk to a lot of people who live are completely wireless in their home. Definitely not for me.

Wireless sucks for us in that we are smack dab in the middle of the two towers so is hit and miss on a good signal.

Wired is just as bad though...we live in a wetland...it's wet ALL the time and floods a lot. Underground wires always got flooded so our phone line was always static. We are on the outskirts of town so no cable. Not enough people live on this road for them to bother to hook us up.

We're wireless and heavy users. 3 laptops, a desktop that is built for gaming, 3 smartphones and 2 tablets.

My macbook and dd's Iphone drop the wireless signal at least 5 or 6 times a day. I am pretty sure it's the router, which ironically is only about a year old but apparently has known issues with Macs so we'll need a new one.

all of the above, plus some. let's see, in my house, regularly connected to the internet, there are 3 desktop computers, 2 netbooks, a tablet, my phone, the blu-ray player and the wii - some still wired, but most wireless.

We have a desktop, 3 laptops (one is for H's work, one is my sister's old one she gave to the kiddos), two tablets, and two smartphones ( again, one supplied by H's work). Usually I use a tablet or desktop. I really hate trying to type stuff out on these touch screen keyboards!

I miss typing on a keyboard. The touch screen is ok but I tend to make a lot of mistakes. Lately I keep hitting the enter key when I want to hit the M key lol.

I didn't know so many people use tablets. My brother has one I've played with while visiting. It just seemed like a larger version of my iPhone

Mama_of_3_Kids posted 3/25/2013 07:24 AM

I use a couple of PC's (laptop and desktop), an iPad, and a Windows phone...it just depends on where I am and what I am doing at that time.

I guess the site looks the same from Safari on my phone as it does from a computer, just smaller. I always wondered that.

StillGoing posted 3/25/2013 14:35 PM

I don't like mobile devices. They're all of them clunky, tiny and closed off. It pisses me off beyond description that I have to sign into a fucking site to download an app.

Also, I loathe apps. Not applications for mobile devices themselves, the economy of apps. It's bullshit. Why the fuck does a calculator need access to my contacts list and the ability to phone home to some unknown server at any hour? You are a calculator app, fucking calculate. Hello world? This is a + b where a = 1 and b = 1 and X is the product of FUCK YOU APPLE YOU CANT HAVE MY CONTACT LIST.

I wasn't comfortable with a laptop until I got one with a full keyboard and 17" display. I like that one.

DragnHeart posted 3/25/2013 14:41 PM

StillGoing: I so understand what you mean.

Recently I checked te All Mail folder of my gmail accountto find emails of every NOTE and every change to those notes sent to me in my email. Excuse me?!? So I turned off notes under te settings of gmail only to have my notes app become completely empty...ugh! I had to turn it back on to get my notes to show up under notes again...

I usually dont allow apps access to my contacts list and I have location services off so it doesn't ping/indicate my location every five minutes (which kills the battery).

Well. Dragnheart, we all learn something everyday! I had no idea about the 'all mail' so went to my google account and sure enough, there it is. Nothing in it except inbox and a couple im messages, so I guess I am safe. I don't have the note app, I used a different one, so I guess that's why it's not a problem for me.

As to your question, with 2 people in this house, there are 2 laptops, 2 tablets, 1 Kindle (H broke his) and 2 smart phones. I use mostly the laptop and tablet at home....slowly moving to more and more tablet use at home. Haven't had a desktop in years. I like having a keyboard, which is why I still use the laptop, but since I travel a fair amount the tablet is becoming invaluable.

Desktop or laptop for us. I have used touch screen devices and I do not like them. They are alright for playing games on, but I prefer my computers.

I won't pay to have Internet for a computer anymore (since BIL ran up the bill using the internet to play online games through the PS3).
If BIL ran up the bill using the internet to play online games, I am guessing that your only internet options are things like the rocket stick from Rogers. Yeah, the data charges are obscene if you actually use it, my buddy actually had his bill double when his stepson moved in and started looking at pictures on POF.

DSL here, into wifi. Everything is on the wifi, and phones default to using wifi as the preferred connection, even though the LTE is faster.

I personally use a laptop, but am slowly building a gaming desktop as I find deals on parts. A properly configured laptop would be clunky to try and move anyway, and the upgrade path is poor.

Also use an iPod for international texting, either through whatever wifi is available, or as a last resort tethered to my phone. Browsing on it is crap.

Don't like browsing on my phone either, but I do watch TV shows I download on it. I let friends who can't get the shows watch them when we are out, and at home I hook my phone up to the TV via HDMI and watch it on the bigscreen. This is preferable to hooking up the computer to the TV because the phones player looks better than Windows, and the HDMI interface works both ways so I can use the TV remote to control the phone.

I wasn't comfortable with a laptop until I got one with a full keyboard and 17" display. I like that one.
Yup, and it has to have a mouse attached.

For the one I am building, I am torn between using HDMI with a 42" TV and the Eye-finity system with the multiple monitors.

I think I have to clarify. I have multiple email accounts set up on my iPhone in settings. Each of wh old accounts plus his current one, my main hotmail plus 2 others, 2 yahoo accounts and one gmail. (I had one of the yahoo accounts for years and have a daily horoscope sent to it).

Under the email icon it has Inboxes for each account then below it says Accounts where it shows the other folders (drafts, junk, outbox, and any folders I created in the hotmail accounts) for each email. I believe it's because it's actually on my phone that it linked up the notes. This only happened in Gmail. The option (notes) is also in the yahoo accounts but it doesn't copy them in the bulk or spam folders.

It was the Rogers Rocket Hub. I used to pay for Internet on the phone line but it was hit and miss because the lines suck and then the in laws had it disconnected when we put them on the family plan for the cells. Yes data charges sucked! I had told BIL to stop. He didn't so I took the cord hoping he would get the point. He found another cord that worked! Sometimes I wonder f FIL helped out with that since he works at an electronics store BIL would use it overnight when we slept so I didn't know he was still running up the bill until it came in. I had it disconnected and paid the bill. We mainly had the Hub to do our taxes online. This year the in laws are screwed. I already did mine at my parents I had to update their computer for over an hour first though so the computer here would have needed to as well.
