It's a shame Starbucks defines their signature taste by burning the living shit out of their coffee before they even brew it, because even burlap sacks can't save burned coffee.

OR CAN THEY.

I just stick to WaWa. I'm snobbish and I like to hate. Like that song by the Offspring.

Wait, are you sure this thread is allowed under the politics and religion guideline?

A freaking men. I'd rather have a cup of Folgers than Starbucks. And Folgers sucks.

Never been to a Starbucks, so I can't comment on their coffee quality. However, I like my coffee black, like (insert inappropriate joke from Airplane here). The real reason I drink it that way is no matter where I order coffee, they have everything I put in it. That, and a few years in the Navy where the coffee was made by the gallons and there would never be fresh coffee until the whole thing was gone. So I acquired a taste for sub-par coffee early on. Convenience store black coffee is fine...Maxwell house or Folgers at home is my go to.

I don't drink coffee but my friends that do prefer Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. Guess they don't incinerate their beans. I know I prefer their iced tea over Starbucks.

Things I want to secretly replace with Folgers Crystals to see if they're noticed:

- Meth crystals

- All the anti-psychotics in a psych ward

- A 40 lb bag of dog food

- Your 6 year olds chocolate milk

- Delaware

- The character test thread

- All the firewire on the planet

- Jupiter, because it's just a shitty gas giant

- All chocolate that isn't made by Russel Stover

- Star Wars episodes 1-3

I LOVE Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf! I used to go there all the time when I was in college. The only one in DC is in a hotel lobby though, so I never go there now.

I only go to Starbucks for the fancy coffee drinks... that can hardly be called coffee...

Like Frappicinos and Iced Vanilla Lattes.

For regular drip coffee I like Folgers or Maxwell House or Dunkin Donuts (at home) or McDonalds or Dunkin Donuts if I'm out...

I really can't stomach Starbucks brewed coffee.

Unagie posted 4/25/2013 21:22 PM

Umm I go to a coffee importer and get my beans freshly ground. Stuff is delicious. If I buy from the supermarket...well I grew up in a hispanic household, its cafe bustelo or pilon. As for starbucks I get hazelnut lattes, mint hot chocolate and mocha lattes. If I want coffee outside I go to a coffee cart lol.

ETA: Anyone hear of the coffee pooped by civets or the one pooped by elephants? They are the most expensive coffees in the world.

This. Grande Skinny Caramel Macchiato please.
Or the ridiculously fattening and yummy Pumpkin Spice Latte in the Fall.
Thank god there are no Starbucks around here or I'd drink one of those per day. As it is I only get one on vacation or if we happen to be in a city with one, which isn't often.

I don't even drink my beloved Tim Hortons anymore. I use my Keurig. I have a reusable ekobrew cup and can put my own coffee grounds in it. Saves me a ton of money.

Vietnamese weasel coffee! It's as delicious as they say.

To properly drink coffee one must go to Ivar's on Seattle's waterfront. It has to be a normal cold, grey, drizzly day. Your clothing must be somewhat wet, and you cannot have an umbrella. You have to get a booth to see out the windows. You have to be tired and hungry. You have to be somewhat thinking that really, you should just go home.

And then. Then. Then they pour out that coffee. Heaven above, just that warm steam rising up & filling your nostrils is enough. Just that smell brings tears of joy to your eyes. You hold that thick ceramic cup in your hands. It's hot, so it warms you up. You haven't even tasted it yet and you're smiling.

And then that magic moment when you take that first sip. You don't even know what hits your taste buds first, the liquid or the aromatic steam. Either way, your mouth explodes with a coffee taste that has never been there before. Suddenly you realize, OMG, this is what coffee is supposed to be about. This is why people talk about Seattle and coffee. Suddenly you understand why people act so stupid about coffee.

Now you know. This is how you should drink coffee.

=============

And then twenty years later you can be a middle-aged soon-to-be-divorcee, unemployed & broke, with three kids who need new shoes, thanking your lucky stars you haven't yet run out of your store brand instant coffee "crystals".
