Anyone with any experience with it?

If so, I'd love to hear it. My daughter has to make a difficult decision asap.

It's a fabulous school! My daughter was waitlisted last year. Congrats on your daughter's acceptance! What is she deciding between?

Have you tried reading opinions on college confidential.com?

My cousin attended Bowdoin back in the early 80's. I don't rememeber him saying anything negative about the college.

He was from southern Maine but with the distance, he lived on campus. However, it wasn't a long drive to come home on holidays, etc.

Like many schools in upper New England you want to be a little careful with kids if they have any history of depression or SAD. Winters can really get to them.

The only other aspect is that many of these small liberal arts schools may not have the facilities or programs for certain fields of study (as you would expect from a larger school).

I think the weather is why Bowdoin's winter break is 6 weeks long!

Wow, too timely, brooke4! ...said because I've been pondering posting about my own DD's fervent desire to go to....Bowdoin (which I support)...she's got another year of HS to go, though.

So, Bowdoin's an excellent school. Didn't go there myself, but I'm a Mainer originally and I can say Brunswick's a decent place. Close to Portland & Freeport. About 2 (? 2.5?) hours from Boston. Small enough to feel safe, close enough to bigger places to offer that diversion. That said, I'm more of a county mouse vs. a city mouse...

Quintessential New England campus.

Don't know where you call home, but yeah, winter's are long in Maine; however, Spring comes a little sooner to Brunswick than some other places...like where I grew up. AND, there's skiing! Cross-country and downhill!

I will be delighted if my DD is accepted; I will know she is getting a top notch education and I won't lose sleep at night worrying about her. FWIW, I used to work in higher ed, and when it comes to campus safety,....not all campuses are created equal.

Good luck to your DD with her decision, and a big-time congratulations to her!!

You can't fill a cup with no bottom.
