I have started a new career in my NB and work with mostly men. I have a few new male friends in the same industry.
So went to a local bar with a new younger friend (he's late 40ish and divorced).
Him and I love our country music so we decided to check out the local talent together.

My friend looks young and I look ...my age. Some younger women kept looking at us and I noticed. They were definitely interested in my friend L. So I leaned over and told him about the group of women. He looked and said they were beautiful but he wasn't there to pick up women but to listen to music. Yep, L has been burned too and clueless.
About two hours later in the ladies room, two of the women approached me and asked if I was L's sister ? I just laughed and said,"No."
In the meantime L had talked with band on break and came back to the table when I returned. The band introduced L to the audience and L sang and played guitar for several songs. I had no idea L was so talented.

He dedicated a George Strait, (song that I love and reminds me of my Mom) Give it all We got Tonight, to me and pointed me out. He sounded great. He makes a good country singer even if he does wear a suit most days. lol
Then I heard the women behind me making comments about wth was HE doing with an old lady. I just laughed. I'm sooo not the cougar type.

So after the set he came back to the table and I told him about his fans. He planted a big kiss on me and said, Just to give them something to think about.
If I was married to FT, I wouldn't have never went out to enjoy the music I like. If FT were to agree to go, he would have ruined my joy of the evening.

I'm slowly enjoying and accepting being single and able to go do what I want.
I'm still not where I want to be but having fun even if it is warding off pushy women for a friend in small town California.

I'm lovin my life more and more.

Yeah, I guess I'm having learning to have fun again.

I'm loving learning to do life spontaneously. No young kids and no FT. Gotta love the freedom.

I always thought FT and I could have those moments after we became empty nesters. It's been fun in my NB on my own.
Maybe someday there will be a SO to share but until then, Gma is enjoying the moments with friends .
I feel like a new woman.

Love this gma.

I haven't had male friends for a decade. The ones I had in my late 20s were either exes or or my reserve bench and IMO it was not appropriate to continue those friendships once I was in a relationship.

It has been fantastic to build new platonic male friendships. I have really missed the 'male' energy - don't get me wrong, I love my girl-gang, they are an amazing and hilarious bunch but I did miss having strong, smart, witty men around me.

Its a different kind of chicken soup for the soul.
