My daughter just got off the school bus and told me that during gym class another classmate slapped her when she turned to say hi to him.
I asked her if the gym teacher said anything and she said that she didn't tell anyone.
I just sent off an e-mail to her teacher to see if she can talk to the the boy and my daughter at school tomorrow.
I am not happy about this.
She has never raised a hand to anyone and according to her teacher she follows ALL of the school and classroom rules.
Her brother wanted to go back to school "to settle this."

OMG.. I would be very upset - sort of like your DS - I would be up there settling things.
I think it's sweet that he is so protective of her.
Hopefully this gets resolved tomorrow.
Hugs,
K

When she told me I literally said "WHAT!" which scared her because she thought she was in trouble. I told her she wasn't in trouble that my reaction was out of shock. Then she told me what happened.
Even though I live close to the school the doors are locked right at 4 so e-mail was my only option at this point.
Her teacher is really sweet, so I know she'll be on top of this.
Thank you, he's a great big brother. He's very protective of the two of us.

I'll will keep you all posted when I hear back from the school.

That makes me so mad. My DD was punched in the face a few years back. I was livid. Sending you both more hugs.

I have a child who used to hit. He is 5 now and his hitting hasnt been an issue in a year.
My son is pdd...pervasive developemental disoder...on the autism spectrum.
So from that point I question his age and if he has an "issue" like pdd.
Please tell your dd when something like this happens she *must* tell the teacher so the teacher can tell the parents (and iep if kid is in iep). If she doesnt tell, nothing gets corrected. Also she should tell bc nobody has the right to lay hands on her.
I was horrified my kid hit. Frustrated. Even tho he hasnt done it in a yr Im still on pins and needles.
Sorry for what your dd endured poor thing.

Thanks Sully. I always tell both kids that whenever something bad happens to talk to a teacher because "you are their student and they need to know what happens so they can handle it right away. They can't help you if they don't know about it."
Also, I've told them to try and work things out on their own if it's something minor like a classmate takes a pencil out of their hand when they're using it etc...
Her teacher sent me an email this morning that she's going to talk to the gym teacher to see if he knows anything (he won't because my daughter didn't tell him) and then she will talk to DD and the boy. She also asked if she wanted me to have the guidance counselor involved and told her that I think a talk from her and/or the gym teacher will be enough. If it continues then I'll get the guidance counselor involved.

I heard back from her teacher. It ended up being that my daughter moved at the same time the boy swung his arm while playing bowling. The teacher did say that the boy did apologize. It was just an accident and my daughter just told me she was slapped because that's what she felt.
I'm glad it was an accident

This thread reminded me of something that happened when ds14 was in 1st grade. He came home from school and said he had lunch detention because he pinched another kid. "But it was an accident, Mama!" I asked how he could have pinched the child by accident and he said he was scooting forward in his desk and the other boy's arm was between the 2 desks and got pinched. This kid ran and told the teacher ds had pinched him and she gave him detention. I asked if he had told her it was an accident and he said she told him it didn't matter.
I was all set to tell him that sometimes we get in trouble for things that really aren't our fault, and sometimes we get away with things we shouldn't and it sort of evens out. Until I put him in the bathtub and saw a monstrous bruise on his back. I asked what happened and he said "T. pinched me back on purpose." I asked if T. had gotten in trouble and he said no, and that when he tried to tell the teacher, she ignored him again.
I took him to school the next day and demanded to see the principal. I showed him the bruise and said, "If I sent him to school like this, you would call child protective services on me. You send him home like that and I find out that not only was the child who did that to him NOT punished, but my child was punished for an accident!"
The principal apologized to me and to my ds, and the other kid got a detention. On a side note, that teacher went freaking crazy later in the semester and screamed at the kids, packed her stuff and left in the middle of the day, and never came back.
It's interesting... the kid who was involved is still a discipline problem. Little brat.
sd, I'm glad that it turned out your daughter's sitch was an accident and things are okay.

Wow, hfssc. Just wow. I had two bouts of experiences with dyfus. The first one the guidance councelar wanted another notch in her belt. During my convo with dyfus I was told I could file against the school. It gies both ways
Jo2 I missed your post. Damd! Was anything done to the perpetrator?
SD. Glad everything turned out okay.
