I got a new job!!! Well, not THE job I was hoping and pining for, but a MUCH BETTER ONE!!!!

One evening at my temp job the sup there mentioned a "behind the scene" company in town... they are the mastermind behind most banks online bill pay, popmoney, websites, etc. That evening I went to their website, glanced through it, and at a whim filled out an application.

In the meantime I had been applying for this health insurance job. The first interview had went amazing. The banking company sent me an email and asked if I would go in for an interview. I declined.

Had second interview with health insurance, that went well again. That same day banking people called me with "sorry we didn't meet up, want to set up another time?" I reluctantly agreed, but by then my heart was in the insurance company and I was just WAITING for them to call with the offer.

So I scheduled the time off for the interview with bank yesterday, but then I started to change my mind and was not going to go. Talked to my SO who said "You already took the time off, you may as well go." We went back and forth, and finally I agreed.

All day yesterday I am just waiting for this insurance company to call... finally dragged my butt to this banking interview... which took 3 FREAKING HOURS!! They gave me 3 tests, and I had two interviews, one with someone from HR and then two sups. I was convinced I was going to health insurance company, so in my brain I was just doing this interview to appease people.

Today... at work during break... received email from health insurance. A lovely email about other people being more qualified. While I was reading this email and near the verge of tears I get a call from bank company... they said my interview went great and extended me an offer!!!

They offered me MORE than health insurance company ON TOP a 12% differential for working after hours and weekends.

I start June 3rd. I AM SO EXCITED!!! This is a lesson well learned: Never put your eggs all in one basket. I always forget what surprises life has for us. :)

Congratulations!!!!

No one changes unless they want to. Not if you beg them. Not if you shame them. Not if you use reason, emotion, or tough love. There is only one thing that makes someone change: their own realization that they need to.

I'm smiling because I had a similar situation years ago. I was interviewing with Wall Street law firms--very cushy, well-paying jobs; lots of perqs. I had accepted a job with one of them, but I had one more interview--an insurance company. I wasn't going to show, but I decided I was in the city already, so...I walked in; the place was dreary-looking (after the wood-paneled law firm--ok, it was the 70's ) I spoke to HR first and was not impressed; then I spoke to the Marketing Manager--and I fell in love (not romantically; with his passion for the job.)

It was the best job I ever had in my life; they were more like a family than a job, and I was able to promote--something I would not have been able to do in the law firm.

Good luck, and enjoy!

Thanks, guys! And I love your story, Sad in Az. ;D It is always amazing how you are eager for one thing, and all of a sudden something else comes along and just blows you away.

I forgot to mention, during my meeting with the banking Co. they had given me this grand tour of the place. Very nice facilities!! Gym, cafeteria etc. I was super impressed, but at the time my head was all about health insurance company.

I plan on making this a very positive experience.
