XH took DDs for a 'fun, happy blended family' weekend with GF, her 5 year old daughter, GF's brother, his fiancee and his 2 kids up to what used to be our lakehouse. XH begged his cousin to join and while she and her husband were hesitant they did join the festivities because they wanted to see my DDs. Cousin brought her parents for the day's stay; her mom is my MIL's sister.

So fastforward to this weekend. MIL and FIL get together with said cousin and sister and are being told what a bunch of stupid, arrogant and stuck up people GF and her brother are. GF would not allow the use of plastic cups because it was no appropriate ('We use glass in this house'...), brother was wearing and showing off a US$ 5,000 watch (yes, you read that correctly), there was no discipline for the 5 year old, and all that was being talked about was how rich GF's parents are and how many houses they own. Also, they snubbed the idea to get a rescue dog ('We don't want a dog with issues') and will instead get some specialy breed that costs thousands of $. XH to his cousin: 'Well, we can afford that.'

MIL's sister and her husband both said that this was even less impressive than they expected and that this was the one and only time they would interact with these people; they all think there is no way this can last unless XH has totally lost all marbles. I, however, do think it will last. XH was all about money, wealth and 'things' to demonstrate that.

Good riddance. I am free, yeah!

Temporarily independent with the whole world at my feet.

I love that "Good Riddance to Bad Rubbish" feeling! They can wallow in their superficial selfishness all they want... sad though it may be to be so attracted to wealth. My Ex did similar things. We were not wealthy, but had managed to accumulate a couple of luxuries that he flaunted to the OW, then subsequently lost in the D, and were sold off to pay the debt. He was really stupid too.

Eleven years later, I never could have imagined how much happier my life has turned out!

Probably will last until he cheats on her.

I had an old cowboy give me a succinct description of people like that, and it's stuck with me for years.

"All hat, and no cattle".

It means that the only things they value are flashy toys that don't have any real basic worth. So....anytime I meet someone showing off their fancy toys (NPD much?) I always look to see if they are minding the herd to pay for said toys.

For me, "All hat and no cattle" pretty much describes someone I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole. You are far, far better off without Mr. Bighat (and no cattle) in your life.

Sometimes the hardest part of finally seeing through someone is accepting what you see...

God grant me the serenity to accept the people I cannot change, the courage to
change the one I can, and the wisdom to know it's me.

Dear Frau

My suggestion is that you tune all of this out as much as possible

This news takes up time and brain space. You are better off focusing on your kids and yourself and not worrying about the outcome of what he is doing.

Your pals may want to tell you all this thinking they are doing you a favor, but I don't they are.

Not questioning their motives.

That is my 2 cents

Divorced by Interlocutory decree in May 2012. WW had an affair with a 66 yo doctor she worked for.
