Oh joy how things are going...

Wh said once again his mother had an excuse for not giving us back the phones. So today I called a lawyer to find out what my options are. Sad isn't it...?!?

Well they can and will write us a letter requesting the phones and what is owed by their phones by a certain date after which legal action will be taken.

Wh doesn't want to stir the pot but I am ready to. I have requested their bills for the past three months and will forward them to the lawyer.

I am so sick of their crap! Wh found out they at having a family BBQ this weekend and the amount they spent on food...easily could have paid us a bit for the bill...

How can "family" be this way? They have pushed us to call a lawyer for crying out loud!!! Omg! I am hoping the letter is enough to get some positive results but I'm not holding my breath.

In the mean time the cell company has been wonderful. They don't want to lose our business so they have helped a lot. Still won't have service back for at least two weeks but at least the plan isn't being cancelled and sent to collections.

I am just so sad at how things have gone. Wh broke down yesterday. He's a mess. I feel so bad that his family has chosen to treat him this way.

So much for family...

Wow! I'm so sorry you have to go through all this. It's not right.

I am happy to hear that your phone company is working with you. That's something good.

Sending (((hugs))) to you and your husband. I think this is going to be a long battle.

How many phones do YOU have in your possession under this plan?

I understand that $1000 is a lot of $. But as time goes on and you remain on this contract, it's going to be way more than $1000. I would cancel the contract, take the $1000 hit and then sell the existing phones that you have on either eBay or Craigslist.

Talk to your carrier and find out if they will roll you over into another plan with payments included to pay off this $1000. If not, pay them $25 a month and forget it. Your in-laws need to pay their own bill.

In the mean time, go to Walmart and get some Track-Fones.

Four phones

Inlaws plus wh and I.

Service is gone to ALL of the phones. Has been for a while now.

We demanded the phones back so we could sell them and pay the balance of the phones off the plan.

In laws were being difficult. Mil gave wh her iPhone but without the sim card so I have to call carrier to confirm that the sim card is a part of the plan... Still haven't gotten the galaxcy phone from his dad. We will be pursuing some lawyer assistance but can't give details...

Phone company has been great. We are getting the individual bills for their phones for the last three months and wh will hand that to mil as soon as he gets it.

It's a mess. Trust me. Wh is hurting badly. He just wants ten out of his life for good and all this crap done.

My husband and I both have iPhone with Verizon. He just switched jobs and they provide a phone. They wanted him to have a specific style of phone because they are a big techno company and everyone has the same type of phone. He has to have a separate bill so he can pay it through his business expense. Ok. So I call Verizon to cancel his iPhone. It's under contract until December of this year. $180 cancel fee. Ouch! So I threw it on eBay and it just sold for $300! It's the iPhone 4s but it's only got 16 gig. I thought that was pretty good.

It's worth a shot. You might be surprised what you get.

We want to sell the other two phones to help pay off what is left owing On them. We need the phones first and with the sim cards.

If we have our account put back in service that includes their phones and since mil still has the sim card she can plug it into a new
Phone and once again use OUR account! So not happening...

Ugh! This is going to get dragged on. We know they'll never give us mOney so ya we take the hit for the bill, sell their phones and remove them from our plan then reduce our plan back to what it was before I added 6G plus of data when they kept running it up.

We just want the phones. That's it. Why they are being difficult about that I don't know. It's our property. Period. Again I say ugh.

The phone company can disable that sim. You would NEVER give that sim to anyone who buys the phone, it would contain all the in-laws contacts and other personal information.

The phone company told me to do a factory reset once we got the phones back. I assumed that would clear the Sim card.

So now we have mil iPhone with no sim card and are waiting to see if FIL gives us his phone.

The problem with her keeping the sim card is that if our service gets restored it will restore service to that sim card. I'll then have to call the carrier to disable both of their phones, which they typically only do if they are stolen.

FaithFool posted 6/11/2013 14:33 PM

Well they have been stolen, haven't they?

sadtoo posted 6/11/2013 14:46 PM

..and you can sell the phone w/out the sim card. You can buy those all over the place on eBay for like $0.99

factory reset, resets the phone, not not the sim.

Ok, I know a little bit about this kind of scenario. Here's something to think about. Do you know anyone who would be interested in taking over one or more of those lines? AKA "Change Of Responsibility". If so, that would remove a line from your account and you would no longer be responsible financially for said line. Of course, you'd still be responsible for what is owed on that line up until date of COR. As far as the phones and sim cards go, file a claim for stolen ph, pay the deductible, get replacement phs, and change the sim card numbers. By doing this, the "stolen" phones will be IMEI blocked and will be instant paperweights no matter what sim is in them and then with the replacement phs with the new sim cards in them, you can use as backup phs or sell/give to the person doing the COR.

PM me if you need more info.

Your WH is the problem here..Im sorry..but it's true. He is allowing them to use him and take advantage of him. I know money is tight, yet these people, your kids grandparents, have no problem with you and your WH paying their phone bill.

Your WH needs to stand up for himself..and his,DS,and DD. He needs to just have the damn phones cut off and tell them to go fuck themselves.

Ugh. Hate them.

DragnHeart posted 6/13/2013 14:48 PM

Sorry for the delay in responding

Question: is the sim card linked to our account? If yes, when we have service restores will that add be active again?

A few things:

All service to all four phones is suspended.

I agree wh needs to really stand up to them and demand the phones back. He has only told me what's been said while he sees his mom at work so really I don't know for sure how forceful he's been.

Once we receive the bills for the three months they didn't pay, wh will hand them to mil and tell her that's what they owe us plus returning the phone (iPhone was returned with no sim card).

If they continue to avoid that I will pay the lawyer to hopefully get some results (it's a one time fee for a specific action).
