Favorite Sangria Recipes?

I know that I could easily turn to google or Pinterest for this, but you guys are the smartest alcoholi--- I mean winos----- I mean drunks----- I mean cultured connoisseurs that I know.

I have this beautiful blue ceramic sangria pitcher that I was given as a shower gift three years ago. I have never used it. I have a friend coming into town to visit this coming weekend, and thought it would be fun to make sangria together.

So! I need your best, tried and true recipes, the boozier the better!

the pitcher is very pretty, but I don't have any recipes for you. I keep looking at them on pinterest, but I haven't tried any of them yet. the ones with moscato and raspberries/peaches are what's catching my eye, and taste buds, though.

Wrong season, but all of the fruit is available (except clementines, so sub oranges):

Fall Sangria

3 apples
3 pears
3 clementines
2-3 cinnamon sticks
2 tbsp honey or agave syrup
6 oz triple sec or cointreau
2 bottles of red wine (something fruity works best)
optional: fresh cherries

1. core and cube all fruit and put into a pitcher or carafe
2. add 2-3 cinnamon sticks & 2 honey, stir
3. add liquor and wine, stir and let sit.

it's best if you make this drink a few hours or even a day in advance and let the flavors marinate in the fridge. garish with fresh, ripe cherries : )

Love the pitcher!

Cranberry Sangria

1 bottle red wine
1/2 cup orange juice
1/2 cup cranberry juice
1/4 cup brandy
1/4 cup Triple Sec
juice of one lemon
1 quart club soda
1/4 to 1/2 cup sugar
Sliced citrus----orange, lemon, lime

Mix, chill and serve

(ETA: I typically leave out the club soda until time to serve)

Okay, this is a novice question: what kind of wine do you guys use in your sangrias? Cheap or nice? What kinds of red? The stuff I drink normally is dark, deep, dry reds. I know virtually nothing about buying sweet wines.

ETA: feel free to tell me very specifically what to buy

I buy cheap red wine. Seriously - save the good stuff for drinking straight.

We tend to use Merlot or Cab, whatever is available.

Instant "sangria" - Drink 1/4 to 1/3 of a Mike's Hard Mango punch. Fill remainder of bottle with your favorite boxed red wine. Place thumb firmly over mouth of bottle. Turn bottle upside down and right side up again to mix. Viola!

I made this recently with boxed red wine and it was a hit.

I replaced the carbonated water & sugar with ginger ale and replaced the rum with brandy, and replaced the triple sec with peach schnapps. I made two LARGE bowls and it was gone within 45 minutes. It's YUMMY

We make Sangria a lot in the summer!

2 bottles red wine
1 c brandy
1/2 can frozen lemonade
club soda - maybe 1/2 liter or less

Make and have the fruit soak up the sangria - that's the best part! We use oranges, cherries, and lemons.

I love white wine Sangria!! So yummy!! And I tend to use cheaper wines, I mean, you're adding a bunch of stuff anyway!

Seriously though, I think that Sangria is a great reason to use box or jug wine. No, really.

I love Sad's recipe - it's a lot like mine. I have been trading peach schnapps for the triple sec, and I sub out some of the sweet stuff (honey) with ginger ale. I've never used cinnamon - that sounds great and may make the ginger ale unnecessary.

You really can't go wrong - just keep tasting till it seems right. (Caution - there comes a point where it's hard to tell anymore... )

cheap wine... this is going to be tough.

I actually was just looking at my wine rack yesterday. Four bottles: 2 different $30 reds (both were on sale), a bottle of honey mead, and an $18 white. And I was like, "I think I need to buy something else, or this is going to be some dang expensive sangria"

Here is a recipe that I just saw on FB:

Indian Summer Raspberry Peach Sangria -

1 bottle of red wine
cup peach schnapps
cup pomegranate juice
cup fresh lemon juice
2 peaches
1 orange
2 lemons
pint of raspberries
24 ounces of raspberry flavored soda water

Mix and ENJOY
