He really is. For my birthday he bought tickets to a concert, a play and for a night away. Last night was the play. It was at a new (to us) venue and he had scoped out the drive and the parking so it wasn't stressful getting there, all issues in prior lives.

Unfortunately, he didn't check out the play. It's an old one, a musical classic, and the ENTIRE thing is about adultery, first one person then the next, a sex triangle with one actor and her two (married) shtuppers. The pain felt by the two wives is clear in the duet they sing. However, one of the wives becomes a cheater herself...

And it was LONG! Needless to say, we stayed only through the first act, because it was becoming clear that the actress wouldn't be drawn and quartered on the stage along with the cheating husbands. That would have been the only satisfying ending as far as I was concerned. We were in the middle of the aisle or I would have been out of there much more quickly.

SAfWH was appalled that his choice was so inappropriate. Apologies, a SMALL amount of excuses, but mostly just beating himself up that he hadn't done his homework. And the music wasn't that great!

I know we cannot avoid the topic of adultery in modern theater, but we don't have to seek it out! Needless to say, he's going to do a better job of researching for the next play!

I hope that is one evening the two of you can look back on and laugh about later.

Yeah, I was mildly pissed, he waited until 2 days before my birthday, and was scrambling to come up with ideas, I'm always prepared weeks before an event.

And he SHOULD have checked it out, he said he thought it was about Mozart "Eine kleine Nachtmusik." you know

So, yeah, I have to laugh at the irony of the situation.

Sorry SK! Stories, whether they're novels, movies or musicals, are supposed to have a source of conflict. Apparently infidelity is THE go-to source of conflict! It's everywhere

Hang in there. Continue to focus on the fact that he was trying to give you a special evening that you would enjoy. Happy Birthday SK!!
