QS got home from work early so we ran errands. Mom called in a panic warning us of storms and possible tornados, so we pulled into a semi-protected area, waited for it to blow thru.

The sun came out we headed towards home. Our neighborhood has some damage. Downed trees and stuff. We turned the corner to go to Moms. She's 2 blocks from us on a secondary road.

We were stopped at her driveway, with the blinker on waiting for oncoming traffic when I heard a terrible shrieking noise, followed by an explosion. I saw black and bursts of stars.

A guy was preoccupied, trying to reach his mother because of the storm, couldn't get thru to her, wasn't paying attention, and rear-ended us. He was going 40mph. We were standing still. Yeah. He shoved us about 40-50 feet down the road.

I fear my beloved Bronco may be totaled. Waiting for insurance and adjusters and all that. Fingers crossed that it's a relatively "easy" fix.

Kids are shaken up pretty bad but safe, QS is safe and just a little sore, and I took an ambulance ride. Severe whiplash and a random cut on my toe.

I'm thankful nobody was hurt worse. We were transporting some building materials. Those boards could have seriously hurt and one of us. Our vehicle could have been pushed into the ditch and overturned. There could have been more oncoming traffic and we could have been sandwiched.

Crummy day. Extremely sore. Thankful to be alive.

Sending mojo on the bronco and that glad to hear that all are ok

Crap! You are so lucky it wasn't worse. Thank goodness.
Gentle hugs to you and yours- and a better tomorrow. You might be sore for awhile.

Wow and ow...take it very easy for a few days. Don't try to soldier through it. I'm very thankful that you're all ok!

I'm so glad all of you are ok. I hope your neck feels better.

Aubrie posted 6/10/2013 21:49 PM

Thanks guys. Everyone keeps saying to rest. Even drugged, I'm too keyed up to rest. Nervous. Scared. Still processing.

The nurse was annoyed I refused shots and made her find pills. Wah. My day sucked enough. Don't terrorize me with needles.

Really hope my truck is ok. I love that old thing.

((((Aubrie, QS, and kiddos))))

I went through something similar a few years ago with the kids in the car. Don't be surprised if they have some anxiety or troubles sleeping. Give them plenty of opportunities to talk about the accident and/or any fears they might have. This is pretty big stuff for the littles. Especially if they saw you taken away in an ambulance.

Gentle hugs for all of you.

The burst of stars is your head hitting the headrest (goes backwards).
You'll probably be sorer in the next coupla days.

A good old folk remedy is to lie face-up with one of those gel ice packs under your neck. "Curve" over it, like a budget cervical pillow.
Put heat on your thighs at the same time (hot water bottle). 20-30 minutes. Or fall asleep...

Pls make sure you have a "checker". Someone who can tell if you're not acting right - to get you to the hosp if necessary (head injuries are tricky & you want to be safe)

nik is right on about the littles too.

jjct posted 6/10/2013 22:19 PM

To clarify - use some thin material btwn the ice and your neck.

How scary!

My dad says any accident you walk away from is a good accident, but I'm sorry you are sore, and your car is totaled. Try to remember cars can be replaced but you never can.

Aubrie, QS and the wee ones. So glad your OK. Sorry about your Bronco. Hope all goes well. And is pretty easy to annoy us nurses, especially when you don't do what we want you too!
