It's hot and humid here in DC, and I got a sunburn last weekend. All week I've been slathering every lotion I have on it to minimize the damage, and every one leaves me with the same feeling: slimy.

The worst is between my shoulder blades, where I tend to perspire in the heat.

I know I'm outdoors a lot more than the average person, since my commute involves walking almost a mile

What do you use to moisturize in the humid months? Do you just live with the slimy feeling? Do you skip it since it's so humid to begin with?

I have used the following:
-aloe (itchy when it dries)
-aveeno (slimy)
-curel (doesn't seem to moisturize well, feels dry really quickly
-body butter (slimy)
-l'occitane (really slimy)
-a thick local lotion that a friend gave me that smells waaaaaay too strong of lavender (gives me a headache)
-gold bond lotion with aloe (best I've tried, goes on feeling almost kind of silky and does soak in, but seems to come back out when I sweat )

I am a lotion freak. I am also very fair and freckled, and burn easily, but my pores are clogged easy and I hate "slimy".

My favorites are:

Face:

DeVita Solar Protective Moisturizer, Spf 30. Works awesome, never "greasy". Also comes in body lotion with Spf 30.

Body:

Kiehl's Creme de Corps Spf 30

Smells wonderful (like a tropical coconut) and is never greasy.

California Baby Sunscreen

Is a little greasy, reserved for when I know that I'm going to be in direct sun with no relief or shade. Totally worth it though, all natrual zinc oxide sunscreen.

Hope that helps!

I buy and use a lot of lotion--too many years in the desert--and so far my hands-down favorite is Jergens Crema, but you have to like coconut. It is so moisturizing that I can put it on at night, shower (and wash my hands several times) in the morning and I can still feel the smoothing effects. It's less than $7.00

For something a little lighter, I like the new spray on Vaseline product--I've been using the oat extract.

Finally, if you have a Lush store nearby (or want to mail order), try Ro's Argan. You put it on in the shower, then rinse it off. It feels and smells delicious. It's the most expensive at about $33.00. (I adore Lush products )

For a sunscreen product, I just bought one of the spray on oils- made by L'oreal. It dries and isn't oily at all.

For regular moisturizing, I use neutrogena bath oil. I put it on while wet out of the shower, and wipe off any excess.

I also use a home made moisturizer that is pretty good. Pm me if you want the recipe.

Yes, I'm looking for moisturizers, not sunscreens

Thanks!

I also use Neutrogena body oil and have for most of my adult life! I buy the large ~32 oz bottles with the pump, and each shower in our house has one in or next to it. You put a small amount on while you're still damp from the shower and it soaks into your skin. I use it on my entire body except my face, though I've also accidentally put it on my face in the past and it's been fine. When you're ready to get dressed you can smooth your hands over your skin to rub any remaining in, but usually it soaks in everywhere pretty quickly except on my shins for some reason.

I use the light sesame scented version and it has a faint... I guess sesame scent, though it has a very mild almost Coppertone scent to me. It doesn't smell like sesame cooking oil or anything.

And it is not oily, and even when working out, running or sweating it never 'comes back out' of my skin at all. It's not heavy enough to do that.

Anyway, look up Neutrogena Body Oil on Amazon and you can read through the reviews.

I use 100% organic royal green odorless coconut cooking creme on face, body and for cooking.

Also vitamin c skin boost from the body shop, face only, is good too.

Because I don't like slimy either.

Look for oils rather than moisturizers.

Another vote for body oils. Alba has one that smells great if you like island scents.

Nuetrogena also makes a nice sun screen.

What?! You just got a sunburn! Do you know how important your skin is? I think you're mistaken.

I'm hooked on St. Ives Skin Renewing Collagen Elastin body lotion. Works well, never greasy, light scent and reasonable!

Amazonia posted 6/23/2013 18:20 PM

I used sunscreen that day - just forgot to bring the bottle along and was outside at a bocce tournament for like 8 hours

I hate slimy. But I use a lot of lotion and love the consistency of the Bath and Body Works products. The body lotion is lighter than the body cream (in a tube) and there are tons of different scents with levels of intensity.

Amazonia posted 6/23/2013 19:51 PM

I can't use bath and body works - I have sensitive skin and have broken out in hives from their fragrances in the past.

Lionne posted 6/25/2013 15:17 PM

That's strange, as they purport to be hypoallergenic. Hope you find something you like!

Organic coconut oil works really well for me but I also like olive oil body butter from the Body Shop. Neither one has much fragrance.

Almond oil sinks in quickly and usnt oily- you might give that a try.

My dd has severe eczema and her dermatologist recommended Cetaphil CREAM (not lotion) many years ago. It is in a tub. It is by far the best lotion I use. It is very thick, no greasy, but absorbs quickly, has no smell, and can heal anything. It isn't cheap, but I buy it in bulk at Costco.

I second Lush products! They are amazing.

Amazonia posted 6/27/2013 12:43 PM

Just to update, this has been a lot better. I think it helped that I stopped applying it 5-6x a day (which I was doing for the sunburn, which is also now tanned over).

My favorite lotion right now is definitely the gold bond with aloe - which says creme on the bottle too. But I look forward to trying some new ones. I just have to finish the eighty billion half empty bottles I have lying around the house first.....
