Dd's 5th birthday is coming up. I had had such great plans for a party but the funds just aren't there and the idea I had is falling apart.

Dd wanted to see a pony. Not ride it just feed it lol. She asked for a cow too.

There's a local petting zoo that travels but I haven't been able to get a hold of them (called and went there but no one answered the door or their phone).

I wanted to have the petting zoo come here and have a party with all of her friends. It's not going to happen and I feel horrible.

The only thing I can think to do is take her to one of the other zoos close by. We always do a family trip to the Toronto zoo each year but that's planned for later in the summer. Tomorrow I am going with the school to another zoo for their year end trip. Cameras are ready and I'm packing my bag. If she likes that zoo we could take her there for her birthday.

I just feel so bad that I can't do what I had hoped for her. There's a pony farm close and I am going to stop there and see if maybe we can come visit their ponies. There's also a cow farm up the street with calves so I'll ask them too.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

I was going to suggest a farm- I see that's on your list of ideas! :)

We have a few farms around here and lots of them love having visitors, so that may be a good option!

Are you near St Jacobs? There are $5 pony rides at the market there and it is a great way to spend a day with kids!

Awww... If you lived near me I'd suggest taking her to Green Meadows Farms... but I'm guessing Kissimmee is a fair piece from you.

Why not have a pony party that doesn't have any actual live animals? I did this with my boy when he was little. Super cheap, too.

Make pony bingo cards -- you can get images of different ponies and make the cards in MS word with a table. Little pieces of carrot for the markers? We used pennies one year -- big hit,the kids kept the pennies! Or little plastic ponies, kids keep the little ponies.

Pin the tail on the...pony!

Activity for kids as they arrive -- make gift bags by decorating with pony stickers, markers, glitter....

Have them make pony cookies -- you make the dough and either have them use pony cookie cutters, or make the cookies ahead of time and have the kids decorate them.

I've got a zillion other fun cheapo birthday activities for little kids, let me know if you want to hear more!

Dang, I missed my little guy! Now he's a big ol teenager!

Sorry for the delay. Been crazy here.

Thank you all for the suggestions. We aren't close to St Jacobs, at least I don't think so. Have to look it up lol

We have decided since things are just to crazy right now we will take her out on her actual birthday to one of the farms close by.

For the party we are waiting until the end of July and are having a zoo that does parties come. It will be fun. There's a lot the place offers (packages for each kid) and a variety of animals.

I am printing out the invitations today and dropping them off at the school.

its always hardest on parents when you don't have the funds to do something for the kids!

I am sure your dd will LOVE the alternate plan, it sounds like a lot of fun!!

Yes it is. Much harder on us parents.

I had a bit of an issue with the invitations. The computer I used to create them had a great program. I saved the file to USB key then went to print on another computer that didn't have te same program and I lost all of the designs and formatting. So I did it up again, not as fancy and started to print... Then ran out of ink ugh! So I took the one good copy and tried to photo copy it. Came out all dark.

Wh had some cash so I bought invitations and wrote out 24 by hand. They got handed out yesterday on the last day of school.

Theres an end of year pool party today. Wh works te late shift so I wouldn't have a vehicle. One of the other parents called last night to see if I wanted a ride but we had just gotten back with dd from the walk in clinic. She's coughing so bad she's throwing up and has no voice. Doc said no meds since its not in her chest. I am keeping DD home in bed. She can go downhill fast. The other parent asked about the party we are having and said she'll be there for sure. Made me feel good. Her son and dd are best friends. I also got confirmation from the zoo of the date and time and just have to select which animals I want at the presentation. It should be fun.

Edited to change DS to dd lol. My phone always changes it lol.
