So...I tell my sister something that was my news to share and she writes, "I told mom/dad about X. I hope that was okay." I wrote back to say that this wasn't her news to tell. Her response?

Then you should have told me not to say anything.

Seriously? I have to preface a convo with this? I asked her that and she replied with, "then don't tell me anything anymore". I really wish that wasn't the answer to this. I just wish she could respect boundaries.

Honestly. She frustrates me BEYOND belief.

That is an unwritten rule between my sisters and I. I rarely think during conversations and stuff just comes out, lol. I'm like this with everyone, so whenever I hear OMG, I have to tell you something, I stop them right there. If its something that cannot be shared, I'd rather not know!

I have the opposite problem. My sister has all kinds of problems with my oldest niece and she would never call mom because she didn't want to talk about it. Then mom would complain to me that she never heard from my sister, why does she hate her so much, etc. I finally gave up keeping my sister's secrets. I also don't call my sister anymore

You are important and you matter. Your feelings matter. Your voice matters. Your story matters. Your life matters. Always.

My family has the unspoken understanding that anything is fair game unless you specify not to tell the others. The assumption is that if you're talking to one person about it, you're talking to everyone.

It used to be "don't tell grandma" since my grandmother is a world class worry wart, but lately my brother and I have had a few things that we've asked each other not to tell our parents yet.
