I was texting with my DD tonight and I used ;-P

She told me that I was too old to use smiley faces. she said that no one over the age of 13 used smiley faces anymore ...

Later I texted her LOL. And she promptly told me that I was WAY too old to use acronyms. So I texted back roflmao

geez

I've heard similar, Dreamboat; my response was similar, too....

I'm too old to change...or better, I'm old enough to not care whether I'm too old or whether anyone else does it or what they think about those who do. It sure takes a tough hide and a good sense of humor to survive adolescence!

My DS rolls his eyes at me all the time because I not only spell things out (correctly) when I text, but I also use punctuation and form complete sentences. Deal with it, Boy.

I texted my daughter (16) the other day with "k". She texted back "Don't "k" me, it's dismissive and rude".

Go softly my sweet friend. You will always be a part of who I am.

NIK, should we start a club for "proper texters"? We could wear top hats, monocles, bushy mustaches for the men, and all talk in stuffy British 1800s accents.

DS and I will have emoji texting contests. (Unofficial, but you know when one of us starts with them, it's ON!).

For example, I'll text him, 'What's up?' and he'll say, 'NM, just walking around in the city', and he'll put in a few emojis, like a taxicab, a bus, and throw in a police car for good measure.

I'll text back, 'I'm sitting on the porch enjoying the fresh air' and try to impress him with a bird, a tree, a few flowers.

He comes back with, 'I'm getting some lunch soon', and throw in a whole bunch of food pics.

It goes on until one of us gets tired of it. It has become quite the competition between us. I know I'm way cooler than he is, he just won't admit it.

DS, you are forever in my heart. Thank you for sharing your beautiful spirit with me. I will always try to live by the example you have set. I love you and miss you every day and am sorry you had to go so soon, it just doesn't seem fair.

I need to learn how to text. I'm way behind times. My 17 yo DD won't answer her phone any more, just texts.

Actually drives me crazy, all the time, in the car, at stores, walking, eating, in the bathroom! When we are having a conversation. Constant! I personally think her texting is being quite rude to me. I got to be strong and have her suffer without it for a few minutes while we talk.

What is "k" is that short for "okay". Any other things I should know? Before I start on this texting adventure?

Yes - k is short for ok. Because two characters are TOO MANY!

Similarly:

U = you

R = are

Texting uses a language all it's own. And it will make you fear for the literacy of those "darn kids these days."

This isnt text related but similar. My DD told me the day of my sons wedding I was WAY to old to wear a toe ring. She said anyone over 40 should never wear one.

Guess what. Shes over 40 now and yep she wears toe rings all the time lol.
