What's that building in the first pic? Very nice!

kernel posted 7/8/2013 05:58 AM

It's the remains of an ore dock.

It's an old iron ore dock. Most likely over 100 years old and being torn down in the name of "progress"

That would have been where the Edmund Fitzgerald loaded up probably.

"the big lake they called Gitche Gumee."

That song gives me chills.

FF, that song always gives me chills too. Edmund Fitzgerald's last port was Superior, WI. This pic isn't from Superior, but Ashland - about 80 miles east of Superior.

Nice pics. Reminds me of Lake Erie (Used to live in Toledo)

I have the song about the FitzGerald. Bit of trivia about that song. The radio stations along the lake will NOT play that song. Too many family members still in the area.

MerryMeNot posted 7/9/2013 02:29 AM

Too bad about the ore dock. It reminds me of a darker parthenon.

FaithFool posted 7/9/2013 10:59 AM

That's interesting they won't play it. I didn't know that. Totally understand why though. It's a haunting piece of music.

I hear it quite frequently around Detroit, Lake Huron, and Lake Superior.
