Foxtrot is the military designation for F, right? But where the heck did monologue come from?

Sad in AZ posted 7/19/2013 22:33 PM

I once gave someone "K, as in knife"

click4it posted 7/20/2013 01:16 AM

I wanted to laugh so hard when she said foxtrot...I was like WTF?

Foxtrot has been around since the mid-50's when NATO standardized the phonetic alphabet. I think it was just Fox before that (because I wasn't around then ). So M as in Mike, F as in Foxtrot, blah as in Bravo Lima Alpha Hotel

I learn something new everyday.

Mandilwen posted 7/20/2013 22:03 PM

I have a former military friend who would sometimes call someone a delta bravo. I had to ask what he used it for, DB - douchebag...

I personally like whiskey tango foxtrot...lol

Sad in AZ posted 7/21/2013 06:20 AM

My email address starts with my 3 initials (for my maiden name); whenever I'm giving it to someone I say: L as in Larry; M as in Mary; S as in Sam. None of those are my names--why don't I just use my real names??

imagoodwitch posted 7/22/2013 20:05 PM

See? There it is. I've been saying all along that "Y" isn't a real letter.

Ok, ok...why no Y?

ETA:
I'm guessing because it's not confused with anything else...
