My H took us out to lunch today and when we were done eating, we hit the quarter machines. My 5 year old son got one of those little, purple, metal rings and gave it to me, which brought back an old memory.
A few months ago, pre A, my sons classmate had a birthday party. He brought back 2 rings, a batman ring for himself and a princess ring for me. He came running into the house screaming and then pulled out a princess ring and proposed to me. I went on to tell him that I cant because im his mom and im already married to dad.
Later on after my Hs A, I had brought it up in councilling. I couldn't believe that my 5 year old son could be so much more thoughtful and compassionate than a grown man... He gets that from me! My H was unable to think about getting me anything, surprise or not, even something as cheap as a 25¢ ring. Today, hes a different man but wtf? My 5 year old can look at a princess ring on top of a cup cake and think of me but a grown man that has known me since I was 18 has "no idea" what I like. That shouldve been a red flag... But he has been great since we started R, so I give him credit there.
