OMG, after spending ages reno-ing my downstairs bathroom, in a split second decision I am now knee deep in reno-ing my kitchen. I'd been planning to do it eventually, but my dishwasher made the decision for me. Friday it went on the fritz. Saturday I went to the appliance store and bought fridge, stove, microwave and dishwasher. The new dishwasher was installed last night. I'm in love. It's so quiet and energy-efficient, the top rack adjusts height-wise, and it looks sleek and sexy.

Now that the dishwasher is in, I can't wait to get rid of my old stove. The new one is gas--four burners plus a grill, TWO ovens (oh my gosh, two OVENS! My daughter and I can now bake twice as many cookies this Christmas!) with the possibility of ovens being gas or electric, radiant or convection. It's this freaking stove that has me wondering, when did I get to be so attached to material things? Holy cow! I've never had any material attachments except for my collection of paintings, which are more food for the soul. I think it all started with that amazing toilet. It just sucked me right in!

Appliance porn. You have entered the Martha Stewart zone. There is no turning back...

Amazonia posted 7/30/2013 08:51 AM

Think of this as an improvement to your way of life - baking cookies with your daughter is an experience (and a great one!), not a reliance on material things.

lynnm1947 posted 7/30/2013 09:09 AM

Oh Amazonia, justify much? Yeah, that's how it is. I got all those appliances so we can make more cookies.

Oh Lord, FaithFool, people already call me "Martha" because of the cooking and baking. Am I now one step closer to it being true?

That's one powerful toilet. Maybe next time, don't stand in the bowl when you pull the lever.

lynnm1947 posted 7/30/2013 09:36 AM

I think I was hugging it at the time!

Amazonia posted 7/30/2013 09:58 AM

hugging the toilet, eh? Maybe fewer glasses of wine when you finish this project.

Oh, thank God, I wasn't sipping coffee, Ama!

The great news is because this time of year isn't so busy, the manufacturers' offers were phenomenal. Every thing I bought was discounted--the stove by almost $1,000. I hadn't given timing any thought, but apparently someone was looking out for me.

I'd love to see pics of your kitchen reno when it's done.

I am now coveting your stove!! It is the only thing I need to replace in my kitchen (aside from cabinets and countertops)

lynnm1947 posted 7/30/2013 11:16 AM

Ama, I am painting my walls red and yellow, my two favourite colours and installing a grayish cork floor. The appliances are all stainless. It should look wild, especially when I hang some of my craziest art in there!

jrc, ya can't have it! But you can have one like it:

It probably costs even less in the States.

TrulyReconciled posted 7/30/2013 11:21 AM

Wow ... that's pretty slick. When I think of Canadian stoves I usually think ...

lynnm1947 posted 7/30/2013 11:29 AM

And when you think Canadian houses, you probably think this, right?

TrulyReconciled posted 7/30/2013 11:48 AM

Not unless you're Inuit, silly.

(You know I'm just kidding you, right? And that I've been all over Canada?)

lynnm1947 posted 7/30/2013 12:15 PM

Yes, of course. And apparently you've been lurking around my cottage, too. JK.

Hey I smelled lobster ...

Fun! I loved redoing our kitchen and well, love doing house crap in general. I spend a LOT of time on Houzz and decorating forums, etc. I want to take some classes and set up my next life. Anyway, have FUN!!

Maybe a painting like this (now living with my XSO) on the vacant yellow wall. Right now there's an autogtaphed photo of Guy LaFleur.
