Well, he's a puppy.

At work today, in the bushes.

My dog is flipping his shit.

My cat is flipping his shit.

He has tags, dog license, no name tag.

We got the contact info from the tags, I've tried calling 4 times since we found him, he was adopted from the humane society, they gave us the number.

His name is Ted and he's a chihuahua mix.

Looks healthy, clean teeth, no scars, no protruding bones.

My dog is laying outside the kennel, puppy is in the kennel whining.

It would break my heart if my dog got away and someone picked him up and kept him without trying to contact me.

How long should I try and what else can I do?

I would try for a few days. If no answer, then I'd take him back to the humane society.

There is a lost dog page on FB for our area. Putting a picture up and asking friends in your area to share?

Hope the pup finds his way home.

Wouldn't the dog license lead to the owner? Just wondering if there is some database that holds the names. If you are able to keep him, I wouldn't take to Humane don't know what will happen to him.

imagoodwitch posted 8/7/2013 06:05 AM

I think that is how we got the contact info, from the dog license.

I am having qualms about taking him back to the humane society.

I will check fb for a lost dog page in our area.

He's a good boy, very loving, very playful, at the moment he is jumping all over my corgi, imagine a chihuahua vs. a corgi, it's funny

Craigslist also has a missing pet section. Owner may have a new phone number now.

I can't give out anymore advise that has been given already, but I tell you I'm the biggest lost animal person you would ever met.

I have pick up stray dogs, stopped in the streets to run after strays, I have rescued cats that have been trapped in the engines of cars all mangled. I have rescued birds and a whole other slew of animals.

I applaud you for doing what you did even though it was a pain in the arse. Without you the puppy surely would have suffered. And even if you have to take it to the humane society at least it would have a chance to be adopted and at the very least it wouldn't have to suffer a slow, painful death on the streets.

TAke him to your vet and have him scaned, he may be mirochipped, and that gives contact info for the owners. Your vet should NOT charge you for this.

I would also recommend going to the 3 closest vet offices from where you found him, and see if they know who he belongs to, and put a found pic with your info on it.

Good Luck - I would be devastated if my Lucy went missing, and she frequently is without her collar because she swims so much. She is chipped though.

imagoodwitch posted 8/10/2013 10:39 AM

He is not micro chipped , I had him scanned yesterday morning.

He has 2 tags, a rabies vac tag and a dog license, I called the rabies tag number and they referred me to the dog license number, the dog license call resulted in the phone number of the person who got the dog license and that number is not taking calls or texts, does that make sense

I posted it on the lost and found Facebook page in the city I found him and got responses, of how cute he is and how lucky he is that I found him but no one claiming him.

I have checked Craig's List pets and lost and found and no dog matches his description.

Can you think of anything else I should be doing?

The cat is starting to get back to normal so that's a good thing.

Giving Ted your last name?????

imagoodwitch posted 8/10/2013 12:56 PM

The kids and I are a little commitment phobic right now.

WS has been telling me since Tuesday night, "give it 24 hours, if nothing comes up, keep him"

I just want to make sure we have exhausted every effort to find the owner.

He's well behaved for an older puppy.

I guess I am transferring what I would do if my dog were lost to this situation.

Sounds like Ted has a new home!!!

Enjoy your new hyper puppy!

Amazonia posted 8/10/2013 17:19 PM

Have you called local vets to see if anyone knows him?

imagoodwitch posted 8/10/2013 19:12 PM

There is only one vet in the area in which he was found.

It's pretty industrial/retail where I work.

He would have had to cross railroad tracks to get to my building from the closest neighborhood or a very busy street.

I don't have any extra advice to give, but I'm happy to read about kindred spirits here, lol! It seems like a lot of our furry family members are either pick ups or drop offs : ) good luck to you!
