Twice over the weekend I was given the wrong change back. In one instance the lady gave me $100 instead of $20 and in the other instance, the man gave me $5 instead of $.63. No, I did not take it in either instance, but I couldn't believe this happened twice in two days.

And then I turned in a scratcher, thought I won only $9, but he said it came to $15. I didn't argue with that one because he already put the ticket away.

I don't play the lottery, so I can't say for that instance. But, I would have done the same thing as you, in the other two scenarios. I've worked as a cashier before, and the last thing you want is for your drawer to come up off at the end of your shift

You did the right thing; so many people don't--it's refreshing when someone does. It's like putting good karma out in the atmosphere. It's bound to come back to you.

I think I'd play the lottery. The universe wants to give you money.

Yeah, I remember when I worked as a bank teller and I would come up short. Sometimes I never found the mistake and I was on a few warnings. I wouldn't want someone to lose their job. Plus, it just the right thing to do.

want2help. I think the powerball is up to 300 mil now right??

I'm one who will pick up a penny off the floor in a store and give it to the cashier. Just that way. Now if I found a $20 on the street and nobody seems to be looking for it, I will keep it. Bad?

You did the right thing Click

My feeling is if you (general term) keep something that you know doesn't really belong to you...just how much enjoyment are you really going to get out of it?

I do that as well (except the lottery thing...as we don't have one here)
most people look at me like I am nuts- I tell them "If you shorted me, I would want my money. just doing the right thing, ya know?"

I guess I shouldn't have to ask this question on SI - because everyone here are the most decent human beings I've met.

I have seen people drop money and chased them down to return it.

I have also gotten the incorrect change back on many occasions. That's why I always ask for a receipt.

Our lotteries up here have automatic ticket checkers. No more people behind the counter saying you didn't win when you did... Also all wins or losses are displayed on the large screen.

Not that I play often
