jjct has proposed we do a bit of a fundraiser. It would involve him in man-tights, but he needs some accomplices. I'm not sure exactly what he has in mind, but you will need to come up with a costume. Something from the same time period as man-tights. Oh, and if you can do a good, phony British accent, that might be helpful, too.

There would be a video made, of course, but only those who donate to the great cause of SI would be given access to the video. PM jjct if you want to know more.

Need only one accomplice, and said volunteer will be wearing a dress - a somewhat voluminous dress, appropriate to the 1600's. Nothing embarrassing there, in fact, the 'reading' is already written, & you'll be the star & get the laughs.

I get the "laughed ats".

PM me if interested.

JJCT, it might be more funny if you wear the dress

Waited too long to book airfare....

Keep looking at the travel sites. They keep changing the prices right up to a couple days before.

In general, I recommend buying from the airline's website direct, because they know where you bought your ticket and sometimes treat you better. But when it gets closer to the travel dates, places like priceline would rather sell the ticket at a break-even price then let the plane go with an empty seat.

Take care of yourself. There's a great future out there. It won't come to you; you have to go to it.

Thanks for bumping this up, jj.

I've already requested, and been approved, to take the Friday off. So we will be heading to Austin either Thursday night, or Friday morning, depending on SO's travel schedule and which airport I'm picking him up from.

In either case, we should be in Austin for lunch on Friday, if anyone else will be available. If not, we'll see everyone at the dinner (which has yet to be planned but will happen) Friday night.

If any of the locals have any suggestions, please PM me. I know there's a lot of really cool places to go in Austin, I just don't know what and where they are.

So Pecan Street Festival is downtown. SoCo (South Congress) is a great place to wander around at to eat or drink, see neat little stores, experience Austin and it is just south of downtown.

There's also the warehouse district - 4th Street/Lavaca - restaurants and bars there as well as food trailers.

We could also hit Zilker Park to kayak or stand up paddle if anyone was into that. (Also near downtown) But it does require time for the activity and to clean up after, lol.

Honestly there are many options. I wasn't sure if we'd want to stick to a general area of town or not, depending on where people are staying. We can play it by ear as well.

Pecan Street Festival is a lot of fun - I saw Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell wandering around last time I went a few years ago, lol. Everything from fried shrimp skewers to art to sausage wraps to metal art to anything associated to our mantra - Keep Austin Weird. It's just fun. Can't wait!!!
