What are dreams?

Are they our subconscious or conscious fears?

A way for our mind to vent/express things that we have pushed to the back of our minds?

Simply random and not to be taken seriously?

I ask because I have had a sudden increase in dreams, well more like nightmares. Ones that wake me. Very detailed, very specific, very upsetting. Usually something is "off" (driveway is on the wrong side
Of the house sort of thing) and I always think "this can't be real".

These dreams always centre around the same subject, the same people.
I dont know if it's something my subconscious is trying to tell me to deal with IRL or if it's dealing with it by dreaming about it.

I think sometimes they are our subconscious focusing on things or worries in our life. Trying to help us figure things out. Especially if you are stressed out. Sounds like your dreams are showing your struggles. I'm sorry. I hope tonight is better.

Then there are times when you watch a scoobydoo marathon and it shows up in your dreams.

I've heard (and believe) that they are your mind's way of processing what is going on in your life - good, bad and ugly.

I think they're a combination of things. I think they can be simple "processing" of current events. I think they sometimes are our minds' ways of working through issues. I think they're sometimes reflections of our subconscious fears/desires/etc., and sometimes just reflective of random neurological stuff. And I also think (and for this I will be labeled a whackadoo) that sometimes, they are a way to connect with loved ones who have died.

The latter, in my experience, results in a "dream" that really is quite different from any other dreams I have.

The mind is really complicated. We can learn all about neurotransmitters and brain maps.

But we still have next to no understanding about the mind, the essence of our souls--which is connected with the universe.

I think that dreams illustrate the interconnectedness of human souls to the universe.

When, that is, they're not just random bits and pieces of neurological detritus tossed in our mental paths while we sleep

My dreams lately have been about the IL's.

Being at their house.

Sometimes I have my say. Get to give them a piece of my mind, vent my frustration. Other times, like last night I am made to feel like they have a huge hold over me and I am helpless to escape.

IRL I spoke to a lawyer about the phone situation. I was told i had to give all the information and that since i spoke to them first they were unable to provide service to the IL's if they called. In the dream, however they are sitting at the table with said lawyer and when I said "you are the one I spoke to. You said you couldn't speak to them" he put his hand on my FIL arm and said, don't worry I'll take care of this for you".

It made me feel so beat down like even the lawyer is against me. Ugh!

I have a lot of fears about the IL's. I have a lot of hate and anger. I guess my mind is processing it.

No :). I don't think anyone's interpretation is "whackadoo" lol.

I find dreams to be fascinating at times. It's just these dreams are bothering me.

I would agree with this.

If you're dealing with anxiety, your kids might also be picking up on more of it than you realize (to tie into your thread last week).

DragnHeart posted 8/12/2013 11:27 AM

I agree also. I am sure they know mommy and daddy are stressed out.

Dd has been awful today. She refused to use the potty saying she wants to be a baby and wants to be in diapers.

She has thrown non stop tantrums and I got fed up and put her to bed. She did the kicking screaming thing for 20 minutes before falling asleep. I am calling her developemental ped today. I don't know what to do with her.

They snuck downstairs Sunday morning when wh and i slept. Tore apart everything. things that I thought were out of reach, to hard to open (sugar container) was horrible. What a mess. Of course I had to stop myself from laughing when I saw it. I don't know why but all I could do was laugh. I didn't want them to see that. We made them help clean up then put tem in their room for the morning. They lost outside time. And we are installing an alarm on their door to wake us when they get up...

That's typical kid stuff but DD's behaviours are just nasty. She hits DS, throws things. She acts like a baby to the Neighbours kid (8yr) so they treat her like one. I have had to tell her not to pick up dd and carry her around.

I am stressed. Very stressed. I try to be patient, give her consequences but it doesn't always work. She was outside playing. Threw one fit. I gave her a warning. Second fit I said that's it in to bed. Wow she screamed and I got looks from the guy at the barn. I had to carry her upstairs to her room kicking and screaming.

Sorry. Got off on a vent there.

Back to the dreams...the IL's have piste on fb stuff that's pissed me off. Wh won't block them and I can see notifications to his email so I see when he's tagged etc. I just want them out of our lives and out of my head forever.

What I find so weird is that at 4am this morning wh jumpe up in bed and screamed No!

That woke me up. I asked if he was ok and he said yes, just a bad dream. Before he left for work I asked him if he remembered the dream and if he would tell me. He hesitated then said that we were taking a walk to the back field as we usually do in the evenings. This time we noticed the coyotes were closer than we like so we start back up to the house. He then sees that a group of them have snuck around us and are by the house. We run to the door but just as he opens it I am pulled from his grip and dragged away by the pack.

He said that's when he woke up and was upset because it's like a movie cliffhanger. He doesn't know what happened after that and if he was able to save me...

I am having dreams about his parents. He's having dreams about me getting eaten by coyotes. Hmmm

Wow ^^^ ....

I dream vividly most nights. I believe it's the subconscious mind working through things.

Endlessly fascinating. I look forward to hitting the pillow every night and try to journal most of what I dream so I can look back on it.

A significant number of my dreams end in grisly, painful death so I am assuming they're just random collections of stray thoughts that don't mean anything more than we assign to them. I think on the day of my real death there is a good likelihood I will lie there with my intestines looped around my feet assuring lookers on that everything is fine and I will wake up in a minute or so after I die. The ones where my skull gets crunched in somethings mouth I could do without though, I don't like dying that way.

The last few weeks, with school stress, current job from hell stress, and a HUGE career change coming up next month, I've had some crazy ass dreams too. Most of them revolve around the lives of people I know falling apart - single women getting pregnant, married friends being unable to conceive, people losing jobs, one coworker who just quit being forced to come back to our office to keep working while her husband and daughter moved away, stuff like that.

DragnHeart posted 8/12/2013 13:23 PM

I have fears of being crushed and drowning so I have had those sort of dreams.

The falling dreams aren't fun either. You can see the ground coming but wake up before hitting it. I often thought OMG what if I actually hit. Will I really die?

I also have nightmares about things happening to the kids. Horrible things. Being hit by a car for example. That I think is my mommy fears coming out.

I have dreamt of checking a lottery ticket and it was a winner. Damn dream! That's just a nasty trick for my mind to play :)

Geez....I want to dream of riding a dragon...
