To spend 1 week in Hawaii?

Being offered a pretty good deal, but it is a bit more than the original offer. Trying to readjust my expectations and not look a gift horse in the mouth.

Not really sure where you are coming from...but i live in Indy...so I looked it up.

A hotel alone would cost me around 2000, the flight is also around 1600 round trip.

Tack onto that another 1000 for any excursions, food and drink, and gifts.

I would budget around 5000 to do a trip to Hawaii (and that is just one person).

It may be cheaper if you do an all enclusive resort, where the food and drinks are free, and if you cut out sight seeing, but then why would you go to Hawaii in the first place right?

I think what you really need to ask is "is this a once in a life time" trip? is the extra still worth the trip?

I'm coming from AZ, air is currently $800+ rt. That's actually the sticking part of the offer. My sister gifted me and my SO standby tickets, told us it would only be taxes and fees, turns out HI is an exception and the tix would still be $400+ per person.

She is also offering us a discounted rate at a condo $132/night, which would save us about $150 total at that property.

So the trip went from $500pp to $1000pp. I feel like a brat saying that is too much when it would normally cost me that much just to get there.

Might all be moot. My SO now thinks it is too much for a last minute unplanned trip, even if we can afford it.

$1000 for airfare and hotel for A WEEK IN HAWAII? Girl, TAKE IT!!! That's a seriously good deal.

Tell your SO not to be a pill and start packing.

Or go with a girlfriend. You might have a better time

ETA, if it's a condo, you can save some $ on food -- breakfast and dinner at the condo, lunch out (lunch is generally going to be cheaper than dinner for eating out).

I would do it.

Hubby and I were looking at Hawaii for our honeymoon a few years ago and we would not have been able to do it for much less than $6k for the two of us - and that's if we REALLY went super cheap (no excursions, cheapest hotels, etc) which we did not want to do.

$1,000pp is a great deal.

You will never be able to go to Hawaii for $2000 for a week ever.

Seriously....last minute or not, you show him what i would cost if you guys planned it out and went without the discounts.

I also vote to go, but then, i dont know what your money situation is.

If you can do it, even at the extra amount - its so pretty out there man.

Hmm, well now my sister is saying it's an open offer and they will be going again next spring. SO is on board with that, gives us more time to save for it. I already got the time off for the trip this fall. I don't want to give it back and wait Probably is for the best though.

This is my thinking on it too. My BIL works for an airline and my sister has time shares that give periodic discounts to loyal customers, but I don't expect these perks to always be there, and certainly not to trickle down to me. It's why I worry I need to pounce as soon as something like this is offered.

I priced and priced. I know how to get a vacation deal. Seriously I should have been a travel agent and would have if anyone used them anymore .

Anyway.. for my family of four Hawaii is out because I couldn't get it under $8000 all in. I could have shaved a bit here or there but who wants to go to Hawaii and skimp on everything?

I was already going to cook most of our meals in the condo and rent a condo from a private owner (so no housekeeping, fewer amenities etc).

Anyway.. PAY THE $1000 AND GO TO HAWAII!! I demand it.

Go softly my sweet friend. You will always be a part of who I am.

SO and I went to Hawaii last year for a week and it was very, very expensive. Every activity, every meal, every drink cost a lot of money. It was a wonderful trip, gorgeous to see but so expensive. If you can do it for 2 people for 2 thousand you are getting an amazing deal.
