I wasn't looking forward to this morning's coffee date. His pictures weren't that appealing, his profile made him sound like someone I wouldn't have much in common with. Yesterday when he texted that he was excited to meet me, I kind of shot it down with a "please don't be too enthused" kind of joking reply because I thought I was going to end up having to say "thanks but no thanks". I wanted him to not be too hurt or too surprised or too something when it didn't work out. Because I was pretty certain it wouldn't work out.
So, I get to the coffee shop where we are meeting a little bit early, snag a table in the shade, and wait for him to arrive. He walks in and "holy Toledo" he's cute! Really cute. He's smart, he's funny, he has a great smile. He is a recovering alcoholic (not a red flag to me as long as the person is in recovery) and he gets personal growth and spirituality and accountability and those things are really really important to me...and so many people I meet who aren't self aware don't get those things.
We talk and talk. He challenges me to speak my truth. We take a walk. He holds my hand. We walk to the college campus and walk around the beautiful central campus area. We sit on a bench and talk and kiss. We walk back to our cars and even stop in a couple of stores and do a little shopping on the way back. He is friendly with the shop keepers. He's enthused and a little ADD but it's cool. He really seems like a good guy.
I'm smitten. squeee

This is great and I am very happy for you. I am glad it went so well, especially as you first thought that you wouldn't be interested. Just goes to show that it's worth giving people a chance :)
