From my targeted "Office Manager" search alerts:

-Therapist
-Over The Road Trucker

among others...

I think the best thing you could probably do is to stay off of the job boards and contact a recruiter in your area of specialty. They'll cut out the crap and can probably land you a job within a couple of weeks.

What, no line cook?

Oh, please do the trucker thing! We can vote on Sazzy's CB handle. AAAAAAand you could road trip to all the cool g2gs. Was it a beer truck maybe?

bwahahaha, I just read one of my job alerts from earlier this week. Sazzy, your old position popped up. Hmm, how bored do I want to be?

Sad, are you also searching for PA or EA positions? (personal assistant or executive assistant) Pretty similar skill set and decent pay in the right companies. I'm an EA at a college and I love my job - it is never boring and always challenging. Of course, my boss is a big part of that - I'm very lucky.

inconnu If my former female colleague was no longer there, I would say go for it, but she was a huge part of the problem--she's a pertetual victim and always feels very threatened.

kernal: Yes, I am looking at EA positions but it would have to be an absolutely fascinating position with a fabulous boss; my ego needs for me to be the boss, so I have a problem going back into secretarial mode.

Oh dear gawd, you did not post a warning.

How can you post pictures of such tragedies in F/G? The inhumanity.

Yes, I am looking at EA positions but it would have to be an absolutely fascinating position with a fabulous boss; my ego needs for me to be the boss, so I have a problem going back into secretarial mode.

My EA position and in fact every admin assistant position I have been in has been far more than "secretarial mode." More like a partnership with my boss to get the work done. The boss has his/her skill set to do their portion and I have my skill set to do my share. Those skill sets can vary widely depending on the company or type of work. For me, working at a college is endlessly fascinating because of all the human interaction. Never a dull moment. For others, that would be a drawback. My unofficial title from my co-workers in my department is chief of staff. If we had the budget for it, I would have my own admin assistant. Instead, everyone in the department does a lot of their own support work and we use work study students to supplement.

Anyway, my long drawn out point is to check out the type of work and type of company and get as much information as possible before dismissing it.

Good luck - I hope you find something fulfilling and well paying!
