My DD17 got a speeding ticket going 72 in a 65 zone. It makes me so mad because 1) she was probably showing off to her friends 2) could have put everyone in danger 3) It was in MY car and 4) The really mad part. My H say's well everyone does it. What good example for DD.

I'm planning on making her work for the fine. Anybody have suggestions on how to make her know how serious this is?

Candy stripper in the ER.

That's a good one. Tomorrow I will inquire about it at our local hospital.

Definitely make her pay for it, and if her/your car insurance goes up, she gets to pay that increase too. That was the rule we always used with my kids.

And by the way, candy stripper? I think you mean candy striper.
(sorry, couldn't resist it)

I was thinking the same thing. I was, like, "Man, that's a little harsh, don't you think?"

How about for a certain period of time only let her use the car when she needs it for school or work, etc. Don't let her drive with her friends in the car if you feel that she was showing off for them.

I agree completely about her being responsible for the fines and any increase in insurance. I think the candy striping (not stripping! ) is a great idea, too.

Oh yes, take away driving privileges. Worse, make her ride the bus to/from school for a week.

Before my DD got her license I told her that if she got a speeding ticket, running red light ticket, reckless driving ticket, or a ticket for breaking any of the restrictions on her license (the state has specific restrictions until the driver is 18), then she would lose her driving privileges and have to ride the bus to school. To which she whined "Well you speed". I replied "Perhaps, but I am not 16 and I own the car and I pay the insurance." Yes, do as I say and not as I do, at least until you can support yourself. I am such a hypocrite

Ha, Ha, didn't catch the typo, stripper. Made my day.

You all have such good ideas. Thanks for your input. It's the next morning and I'm a little more calm about it and can think better.

I didn't think about the car insurance going up. Ouch.

I really can't make her ride the bus. Her twin brother and her share a car and he drives her to school. I don't think I could justify her taking the bus.

But taking her privileges away from driving her friends around is a workable idea.

Will my car be on the policeman's radar since she was in it, so now I'll have to watch it?

Well, then her riding the bus will have an even bigger impact on her. Her brother still drives to school but she has to suffer the indignity of riding the bus because she got a speeding ticket.

Yeah, me too, can't stop giggling like a fool.

Maybe NG could come back on, and share her experiences with that?

Your car might be scrutinized.
Paint it.
Ok, I'm being silly...
(but be careful for awhile, ok?)
