I know folks here love a good spider pic... took this one on the side of my house a few years ago.

I believe those are eggs, not cheese.

It's heartwarming to see an expectant mother... she simply glows.

I had to stage this shot a little, by relocating the praying mantis to the web... but well worth the effort.

The mantis finally just simply walked out of the web, like it wasn't even there, and mama spider resumed watch over it's egg sack. Was hoping for an epic bug battle... no such luck.

I'm out.

Praying Mantis' are badass. You have no idea.

Yeah, no bug takes them down, at least in my back yard. Maybe some monster wolf spiders, which are typically found around lakes here.

These garden spiders are formidable though; I've fed them cicadas which are about 3-5x their size, and they spin them up, and suck them dry over the course of a week or so.

I think spider threads should have to have their own yellow circle icon in the thread lists. Webprint on it or something instead of the bandaids over the mouth smiley or whatever.

Cool pics!

We deliberately bought and hatched over 1000 praying mantis eggs in our garden a year ago. Bug population is waaay down. Come to think of it, fewer squirrels too
