Every once in a while, you get a reminder of why you teach. Today, a student came to talk to me rather sheepishly. She told me she might have to switch her Math class which could mean she would have to switch history to accommodate. She asked what other periods I teach. I let her know and then also told her another teacher taught the same class and she could also switch to that section.

"I would hate to see you go to another class. You're so great to have in class, but I understand."

she then said, again sheepishly, "Is it okay, Ms. Hurtbs, that even if I Have to change classes I can still come talk to you? History is really hard for me, but I really like the way you teach it. You explain things really well."

I nearly hugged her. Sometimes, you get a good reminder of why you teach. Such a sweetheart.

Wonderful...something you will keep in your heart always.

Especially when you read one of those articles that complain that we work only nine months and get paid too much!

Me-BS-71 in May HIM-SAFWH-74 I just wanted a normal life.Normal trauma would have been appreciated.

@scaredy - wait, are you saying that you don't work 9-2 only 8.5 months out of the year and just read a book to students?

Sometimes you need a reminder. I just made my third CPS call since last Monday this afternoon. I know they were all the right thing to do regardless of mandatory reporting laws but it always feels wrong.
