So this summer my son stayed at a friends house and came home with itchy bite marks. We could do nothing but wash his stuff and wait. Within weeks my younger son began getting bit and sure enough we found a bug in his comforter.
We can't afford an exterminator for our home (3000 sq feet) right now so H and I bought a steamer, diatomaceous earth and grabbed our shop vac.
We spent this past week working on 3 bedrooms - taking everything apart, steaming and vacuuming the crap out of the rooms/furniture, and coating the room in DE. It takes 3-5 hours per room but is worth it for peace of mind even if we haven't seen anything in that one room.
Yesterday we even found the dead bugs (in the sons room who got them from his friends house) as the steamer was killing them on contact. We threw away one mattress too - those are nasty sneaky little bugs - ugh!!!!

Oh no!
What a nightmare! I heard they are very very hard to get rid of.
Are you going to let the kiddos go back to the friends house? I hope not.
I heard they can be picked up when people put their luggage on the floor of a room that is infested. Maybe that's what happened?
Sorry you are having to deal with all that.

I feel bad but we won't let our son go there anymore, in fact we are hesitant to let the kids stay anywhere now! We make them come home and throw their stuff straight in the washer then take a shower.
With8 of us in the house they could come from just about anywhere - ugh!!

Have you let the patents of the other kid know? I would be mortified, but glad that someone told me... Tho I would hope I knew on my own.
Love isn't what you say, it's what you do.

Check out jnsavedbythebell's videos on youtube. My xbf had bedbugs and we eliminated them entirely using his bed isolation techniques, CO2 traps, and the tape on the walls. You just need to break the breeding cycle! We caught a mama and she laid four eggs in the little vial we kept her in for observatoin, and all of them hatched. Icky. lol
In any case, the CO2 traps are cheap and effective. Isolate the bed and you can sleep in peace. The DE works too, we tested it on some of the bugs we caught. A mix of rubbing alcohol and murphy's oil soap also kills on contact but I dont remember the proportions we used.
Good luck, they are nasty!

Lucky - they knew which makes me so mad! They moved shortly after he stayed and left all their furniture behind.
Peace - thanks!!! :). We trapped one in DE and it took about 12 hours to die. They are tough! The steam killed them instantly which shocked me.
