Is it just me? And any new moms out there please don't take offense! My daughter is a new mom and has totally embraced this trend.

WTH is up with the naked baby photos? Not only are they naked but they are spilling out of milk crates, wearing leggings, sitting in flowerpots, sleeping in baskets surrounded by seashells on the beach, etc.

Personally I find the pictures quite odd and much prefer the Sears photo sessions where you put the baby in a cute outfit and the photographer snaps a picture with a carpet drape background.

I've seen that and it just creeps me out. It always has. I'm like you, give me the traditional photos any day.

The naked baby on a (faux) bearskin rug has been around for a long time. As my SIL put it, "the whole purpose of it is to totally embarrass your child with it in front of their friends when they are teenagers!"

I love most of the new style of pics. I wish I could have done them for my babies. However, I agree that some go pretty far and are contrived in a wacky, poor-taste, did-they-hurt-the-baby way.

I hate those prop heavy photos. If you're going to do it, at least be unique. I really like this lady for unique.

Haha I love them. Haven't subjected my two to it yet, maybe the next one.

The closest I've come to that kind of picture is one of my GD2 when she was about a year old. An aspiring photographer was at a park when my DD and SIL were there with the grandkids and she offered to take pictures of them (for free. She was wanting to build her portfolio). One she took - and I think is adirable - was one of GD2 sitting in a basket.

But the naked pics... nope never did them.

I did some of those with my kids years ago.

Notdefeatedyet, that is one crazy photo! My kids--big zombie followers--would love it, though probably not for my grandchildren!

I don't understand the gigantic poofy bow things on their heads but hey, to each their own.

mom of 2, I guess we're just "too old to get it" ...cause I'm right with ya. My girls were Sears/Olan Mills babies (the 80s).

My DDs don't like the newfangled stuff much either - they stick with the traditional - or better yet, take candids with their own cameras (every pic I post of my grandkids in F&G are straight from their mommy's camera)...digital photography is a beauitful thing...

Guilty as charged... If you can't beat em, join em lol.

I had my newborn photos when she was 11 days old. Some naked, some with wraps or with a diaper and covers. Put her baskets, on rugs.. With headbands and wearing beads. Cutest photos EVER!!!

I'm o-l-d, and my grandmother took photos of me in a baby bikini / underwear...it's famous in my family. Very embarrassing until I was, oh, 35 or so. Now it just cracks me up.

At least there are no diaper-falling-off-my-butt photos, like the one my MIL has of my H...

NewMom0220 posted 9/17/2013 12:50 PM

I just had these taken for my 6 month old. He's in a washtub...he's in a bird's nest...he's naked in a diaper..and he's in a polo shirt and shorts.

It was fun, adorable, and I don't regret it. In fact...I've been dealing with so much crap recently that I felt proud that I actually went and got these done.

I guess it's just a matter of taste...just like anything else. I think babies look cute no matter what. :)

I think some are super cute and well done. But some folks can't art direct their way out of a paper bag, so you get some weird things happening.

Mama_of_3_Kids posted 9/17/2013 21:08 PM

As a professional photographer I do NOT and will NEVER do naked baby pics. The most naked I will make a baby is in a diaper, with a cover over it. I do use some props and fluffy bows with babies, but I also do some "natural" baby only pics. If I think a baby looks uncomfortable in a pose I won't try it. I'd rather have a happy baby than to try to get them to do an uncomfortable pose. I'm not in the norm though
