My H is out of town working this week. We had a doozy of a fight the night before he left. He's had several things go horribly wrong already and still has the bigger of two jobs left to do. Tonight, the boss decided to buy everyone dinner. This almost always includes whatever alcohol the guys (except the one driving them back to the man camp) want to drink. I always worry about drinking when he is out of town. He's a people pleaser and any alcohol makes it harder for him to say no. Many of the men he works with are single or cheaters. This trip, neither of the men who typically would hold him accountable for bad decisions are there. Naturally, I hear that he's at dinner and become a ball of nerves. He then volunteers that he isn't drinking. I ask why, fully expecting to hear that he knows I don't want him to. That would have been ok, but the tone of it would make me feel like he was doing it out of obligation. His actual answer: Cause there's a couple guys up here that would influence bad decisions and I don't wanna take any chances.
This made me feel so proud. He recognized the potential for a bad situation and is taking precautions to be sure he makes good decisions. And not because I'm making him, but because he is choosing to.
