Canine Pink Eye?

My daughter has a 3 year-old Pit-Dalmatian that has a runny left eye that is a little pink. She is freaking that it is pink eye and is wondering if she needs to take him to the vet. It doesn't seem to be bothering him in any way and she is cleaning it with clear water. He has only had limited exposure to another dog and she doesn't know if that dog has it--and can't find out as it was a random dog she met while out walking. Any ideas? Can a dog get pink eye from a human and vice-versa?

they can't get it from a human, but they can get it. Tell her to take the dog and have it treated or at least looked at. One of our three dogs, the cocker Spaniel developed pink eye at a time when we barely had enough money for human food and shelter and animal food, thus no money for vet expenses. Because we were unable to get it treated she eventually lost sight in that eye. We're in much better financial standing now, but it's too late, we can't restore her sight. I'd hate for something like to happen to another dog.

I don't know about the different strains and if they're transferable.

What I do know is that runny + pink = infection and he should be seen by a vet just so that he can get some meds and relief.

Out pug is on topical antibiotics for something similar right now, and he is feeling much better.
