BW is Running Her First 5k Tomorrow!

As some of you may know, my BW suffered a miscarriage earlier this year. Not long after, she started using the Couch to 5k app and has since lost just shy of 50(!) lbs. Her sister in law suffered multiple miscarriages prior to the birth of their oldest daughter, and has for several years been part of the planning committee for a March of Dimes 5k.

So even though I am incredibly proud of my BW for how far she has come, I know tomorrow is going to be bittersweet for her. Had she never lost that baby, she wouldn't be running in the first place. But her hard work and dedication in getting to this point makes me so incredibly proud to be her husband.

I know when she crosses the finish line she will be dealing with conflicting emotions, and I hope she will be able to clear enough headspace to feel pride in herself, too.

Good luck, TCD. I love you.

I know we're worth it.

It went well. It was a really nice morning. I'm not happy with my time (but hey, I finished). But I swear I was born with the slow gene. Even in high school when I was skinnier and on the wrestling team I was a slow runner. Doesn't help that my brother won the race with a time of 19:44 and a pace of 6:22 a mile...jerk. I had some moments of remembering why I was doing this. Almost broke down a few times. Held it together at the end. I still don't get how people enjoy running. But there are so many emotions attached to losing the weight. Some are not for off topic. Some are because of the miscarriage. So even though its always nice to be thinner and be able to shop anywhere for clothes, I haven't enjoyed the fruits of my labors as its all triggers. But not to be a total bummer...thank you everyone!

TCD you are amazing. Congratulations on finishing your first 5K! I have the slow gene too; even when I ran a lot, before my daughter, I was pretty slow. That's ok, we're still lapping everyone on the couch!
