I'm planning on planting bulbs this weekend (I'm in Z6a). What are your go-to methods for repelling squirrels, etc. I'd like to avoid hot pepper and urine, though I have a three year old who would LOVE to go pee outside.
Is chicken wire really the best method? Sounds like a PITA to me.

I'm in zone 7a, and have both my yard and a lakeside woodland lot to plant, so no chicken wire for me - too large and too labor intensive. Instead, I just plant bulbs that either the squirrels, moles, and deer won't eat - like daffodils and narcissi, squills, camassia, and hyacinths, and muscari that spread so well (TOO well sometimes). If I were planting tulips I would try hot pepper flakes - no urine from me!
Be careful what you wish for the most - you may get it.

For years I have gotten a little blue pill,
(oops, but true) from the nursery, that repels squirrels. Put it in the hole, when you plant, and they leave 'em alone. Works every time!
