I have an Italian assignment due tonight and I'm struggling with part of it. I'm trying to write the phrase "In the United States..." but I have no idea which way to write it. Here's my options:

Negli Stati Uniti...

-or-

Nello Stati Uniti...

The first is the plural form because, obviously, "states" is a plural word. It makes sense. The second is the singular form, which also makes sense because "United States" is a single country.

I have no idea which way to write it and it's something that's repeated throughout my paper. Unfortunately, my instructor isn't responding to my emails and our discussion board, where I could ask my classmates, is having technical difficulties. Suggestions?

In Spanish it is Los Estados Unidos. Los is plural. Don't know if that helps.

Its plural in French as well... And in English. I would go with the majority and use the plural

Love isn't what you say, it's what you do.
