I used to read a lot. Then I got an iPad and read on kindle. But then I got netflix and get hooked on TV series. I read a fraction of what I read even a year ago. It's sad!

I think I will have to unplug the wifi at night.

Right there with you sistah... Considering instituting blackout times to catch up on the print material.

Kids and pets. .. ruining my reading since 1997

Agreed but while I read less I also never watch regular or cable TV anymore because of Netflix.

I started down this path. No electronics allowed in bedroom. Period. No TV. No tablets, no phones.

Back to reading.

ps- If you have trouble sleeping it may be the electronics. The message the screen flicker sends to your brain overrides its natural "shut down" mode.

I won't have screens in the bedroom. Not even a clock radio -- IPad wifi is turned off and it's programmed to wake me up with soft music. I sleep like a charm.

I finally returned the cable box last weekend so that's one less thing. Netflix and other free content is so plentiful.

It is addictive though!

Netflix vs. reading is very cyclical for me. So whenever I become enmeshed in a new series I just ride it out and enjoy, knowing that whatever I'm into will eventually run it's course.

TV and movies also turns me onto a lot of print I wouldn't otherwise know is out there. I'm currently reading the Game of Thrones series and the Divergent series, so when I watch them, it's win-win

In the last 10 years the only
"tv" I watched was Lost and now Under the Dome (both online).

IF I had non-stop NCIS available I'd probably do that too and have no life so I'm just not even looking for it.

Thank goodness there is no outlet near my bed so my Kindle charger doesn't reach - when its dead I HAVE to go to sleep

I find it's very cyclical for me too. I go through a lot of phases.

I also do a lot of reading for my history class, on the IPad mostly, it's so handy for carrying around massive tomes to read on the bus...

No, not THAT bus! But I'm on it anyway.... which is why I like to distract myself with all that techie stuff.

(Discipline and Punish by Michel Focault anyone?)

I seem to find one 43-episode series after another. Right now I'm watching the 4400. I couldn't turn off the wifi last night at 9:45pm - I had to watch JUST ONE MORE...but I did turn it on airplane mode at 10:30pm which is better than staying up to midnight.I'd like to get to where I can switch off wifi in the whole house around 9pm and then read.

This is a tough addiction!

Both evil at bedtime though, it's just 'one more chapter' vs 'one more episode' either way I don't go to sleep!

Anyway, at least you know the time with netflix- time moves differently when reading... I look at the time and it's 11pm, read for 5 minutes and suddenly it's 1:30am
