Welcome, folks to the first EVER (and hopefully last) abbreviated Pigskin Picks recap. I’ve got a hell of a week at sea with barely time to turn around, so here in short form are this week’s happenings. I will be back next week with the usual wrap up and to-do’s around the league. For now, sit back, accept a few quick hits on some games, enjoy the meme’s (especially you, MissesJai) and don’t forget to congratulate our weekly winner and those in the cumulative standings vying for Da Championship.
Who’s still unbeaten?
All five of the 4 and O’s played on Sunday, with three still standing as undefeated. New England and Seattle played on the road and lost; New England in a real sleeper, Seattle in a close one to the Colts.
Those teams now at 5 – 0 are Denver, New Orleans and Kansas City, all three teams playing at maximum efficiency and for Denver, thankful for Romo’s inefficiency once again.
Sorry, booger, but the resemblance is uncanny!
Who spanked whom/who/whatever?
Why, that would be San Francisco beating up on Houston 34-3, thanks in (small) part to Matt Schaub’s fourth Pick 6 in as many games, setting the NFL record. It really is a shame to see the Texans self-destruct like this.
Hey, Commish! Who else played?
The Brownies won again. So did Baltimore in a close one against Miami. St. Louis kept the Jags winless, but because they had 20 points they all got to go to Dairy Queen. The Packers won but lost with Clay Matthews out for the next 6 - ? weeks with a busted up thumb. Carolina surprised the wage betting prognosticators with a win over Arizona, while San Diego stays under .500 in a loss to Oakland. Last night the Jets won it on the toes, with a perfectly timed end of game field goal win over Atlanta at home.
Oh, and I almost forgot – the Giants lost against Philly, securing Eli’s place at the kid’s table this Thanksgiving at Casa de Manning.
It pays to go to GTG’s folks, as evidenced by this week’s winner. While kernel and the gang were enjoying the fall foliage, obnoxious amounts of food and disco dancing that just screams “MICHIGAN!”, she was able to capture top dog honors this week by being in first place with 11/14 correct picks.
WOO HOO! WAY TO GO, KERNEL!!!
Coming in second place with 10/14 was Yme who had a closer to the pin tie-breaker than our pal booger bear who came in third. Couplaofya had 9/14 correct – nowiknow23 and purplejacket4, while seventh through tenth place went to those with 8/14 to include lingerdog in seventh, ray-ray in eighth, MissesJai in ninth and Mr. Know It All, sportsfan, in tenth.
We had just a bit-o-shifting (say that ten times fast) in our overall standings this week, with Yme holding onto the Champions Chair with 49, a 4 point jump from Week Four. In second, also with 49 is JustmeVA, dropping down just one point from last week. In third place with 48 we have MissesJai dropping out of the lead from last week, along with reigning Champ purplejacket4. In sixth place with 47, we have our pal tesla, while lingerdog and kernel both had 46 to claim sixth and seventh places, respectively. Rounding out the top ten, we have ray-ray in eighth with 44, sportsfan, also with 44 and FacePunched holding on tight to tenth with 42.
We’ve only got two teams on bye this week, so you have 15 chances to get it right! It would be super cool to have someone hit all 15 games – how about it?
