We will be there for the marathon first Sunday in Nov. as my H is running in the marathon.

There are sooo many amazing restaurants, bars and hotels in NYC.

Wondering what your suggestions are.

If you are planning on doing a bit of sightseeing:

Top of the Rock at Rockefeller Center, 360 degree view of Manhattan.

Broadway/off Broadway play.

911 Memorial and Museum.

If you want to eat at a touristy place, the Carnegie Deli is always good. If you want to eat someplace historic, romantic and pricy, One If By Land, Two If By Sea in the West Village is really good.

Don't go to the Carnagie deli. It is in Time's Square and the tourist lines go all the way down the street for overpriced deli food. You should not have to wait two hours for a deli sandwich in Manhattan. It is known for its delis and they are everywhere. Enjoy the marathon, my EH ran it many years, I absolutely love it!! Map the course and position yourself. My favorite spots to catch him were on 1st Ave after they cross the 59th street bridge, as they are still pumped but the crowd has thinned a bit so you can actually pick them out. Also, that is a nice residential area, with lots of little bars/pubs and restaurants to duck into and have a bite to eat as you are either awaiting them or after they have passed. After that, you might want to position yourself in Central Park, closer uptown to the Bronx where they enter. This is the final leg where they are usually spent and can use a lift from a friendly cheering face. I like to go to upper Fifth Ave or Central Park North(?) to give them a cheer and then head towards the finish line in Central Park. It's really hard to get close to the finish on Central Park West as that's where the media is and folks have parked themselves there all day, but if you head into the park around Central Park South, you can usually see them, cheer them and get great photos just when they think they can't make those last steps. The crowds move them!! I love the NYC Marathon! Have fun and head into the residential areas to eat, just wander and pick a place by it's menu, you're bound to have a better experience, better food and better prices. But still make sure you visit Times Square, take it in and take some photos. Hopefully you'll see some great street performers and I highly recommend Toys R Us Times Square!! It's kink of like the new FAO Schwartz, think "Big" the movie!! Most of all, just enjoy and good luck to the runner!

Thanks positively! I really appreciate the route advice as I had no clue where to cheer him on.

We took our boys to Toys R Us and FAO on a trip there in 2010. Crazy fun! This time it will just be the two of us. I can't imagine dragging the boys around on Marathon Sunday!
