I'm moving overseas and want to pick up an unlocked GSM phone before I go. The prices on Amazon are giving me sticker shock.
Any recommendations?
I've been drooling over the HTC One, because I love HTC, but there's no way I can drop almost $600 on a phone that will essentially be a facebook machine.
ETA: If anyone has phone recs, I really don't need anything fancy, but do want a decent camera, and need to be able to use 3G (no 4G where I'm going) and wifi connections. Otherwise I mostly just do email and facebook, and use it like an MP3 player. Seriously, I'm not much of an app user. I use GPS a lot now but not sure if there'll be accurate maps where I'm moving.

How about a Nexus 4? It isn't as fancy as an HTC One but it's half the price and sounds like it would do the things you would need it to do.
ETA unless you need expandable storage, which you might if you have a ton of music. Still, it is a pretty decent phone for the price.

If you are going to an area where there are a large number of expats...you may find some listings on the local english language forums or through the large employers that bring them there.
Some areas have so many expat comings and goings...you can get most of what you need.
Also don't discount the prepaid phone services, as many of the overseas carriers (in our general area) have various smart phones on their line up.
We ended up purchasing ours at our current location...but we were able to utilize the deals with a contract, due to the length of time we will be here. We went the prepaid route with the children.
Good luck with your overseas adventure!

Treasures, I am still freaked out about buying on ebay.....but I'll look

Maybe try Best Buy. They also buy old phones so you can save a bit that way.
