I have dreams of epic proportions. Always have. The earliest dream I remember I was probably 3 or 4. I dream in all senses and in color. I remember my dreams when I wake up. Sometimes they are weird, sometimes silly...some are scary and some just seem like everyday life. Sometimes I have an idea where my dreams come from and I can pinpoint something I watched or talked about and even 5 different things I can figure out how they came together as a dream. But my dreams are exhausting. I skipped the gym last night so I could get a full 8 hours and I'm still tired because my dreams were like a workout. I know I'm not alone in the crazy dreaming. My dad can have some awesome ones. One of my favorites was when we were in Las Vegas when I was in middle school. We were resting in the hotel and he wakes up and asks if there are any brown gorillas. Then he goes back to sleep. Turns out he dreamed that he was captured by the Vietcong and put in a hole. They put a brown gorilla on top of the whole to make sure he didn't get out. While looking up he noticed the gorilla didn't have a butt hole. So he figured out it couldn't be real but a guy in a suit. So he wakes up and asks us if there are any brown gorillas to make sure he was right.

Every time I say the words, "so I had this dream," to WH, he lets out a big sigh and I can see him prepare his body for the 20 minute story. Last night's dreams were about ghosts, possessions, demons, poltergeists, suspense and was like Poltergeist, The Conjuring, The Amityville Horror, and Ghost Hunters wrapped into one. I need a nap from sleeping!

Anyway, have any of you figured out why you dream so epically? I can never find anything on it.

I dream like that, too. It's like a very detailed movie. I have not idea why I dream like that.

lost_in_toronto posted 10/22/2013 08:44 AM

Yes, I have a really vivid dream life. Or I did, before my daughter was born. I don't think I really slept long enough to dream for over a year, but now that she's older I've begun to dream again. I forgot how weird dreaming is.

I am a worrier, and have a lot of anxiety, and I think this works itself out in my dreams a lot. My dreams are often about escaping disasters, or trying to find something, somewhere...trying to pack a suitcase that takes forever. Sometimes I have dreams where I have to jump for some reason, and I end up really REALLY high in the air. Sometimes I'm trying to get to a floor in the building, but the staircases are really difficult to navigate.

So, ya - exhausting dreams I get.

Every once in a while I'm rewarded with a lucid dream, but not nearly often enough.

One of my favourite dreams ever was attending Michael J Fox's comeback tour. The concert was held in a subway station in Toronto, and he sang Meatloaf songs.

I really have no reason for my crazy dreams. Sometimes I do know why I had a dream about something because I remember something that happened in real life. I do have reoccurring nightmares about fears I have like aquariums and escalators (when I was little I was terrified of going down te escalator...up was fine...not scared anymore though), and elevators that that don't work (not sure where that one comes from). But I'll dream no matter what is going on in my life though...good or bad. Nothing has ever made it go away!

metamorphisis posted 10/22/2013 09:24 AM

Yes. And nightmares like crazy. Before I had EMDR it was a regular thing to wake up shrieking, sweating, shaking . Now it's better but often very anxious unpleasant dreams.
And naps? Forget it. For some reason my dreams are so much more vivid and detailed and real when I nap.
People who tell me they never dream get this look from me.. . I just can't imagine that.
It's just a part of who I am and I can remember very vivid dreams from when I was very little.

I once heard that vivid dreams are a sign of psychic abilities. I unfortunately haven't figured out any winning lotto numbers.

I dream like that too. I thought it was normal until Husband informed me he doesn't and doesn't know anyone who does.

Though, sometimes my dreams are silly. Last week, H kept pushing snooze on the alarm, and I dreamt we were at a carnival, and you had to gather as many rubber ducks as you could between the beeps, and then you could trade the ducks for sleep minutes.

And, I know sometimes I dream when I'm really stressed. Those dreams are OCD. The most common one is I am at like, a mall, and I have to organize the cars in the parking lot. In the dream, I do by make, but that isn't "tidy" enough. So, I try by model. Then by type. Eventually i settle into by color and send the rest of the dream lining them up.

Once in a while I have those the last one was a doosey, about to FBI agents getting caught by the serial killer they were hunting, it was extremely graphic and horrifying and unfortunately when I woke up I remembered every thing.

I don't even watch slasher movies like Saw so I can not even imagined why I had that dream, other dreams are about my mom who passed yrs ago, she is still alive or in remission.

Yes, I have vivid dreams, lucid dreams, Big O dreams, prophetic dreams. I also have nightmares like that, so terrifying that I laugh at scary movies since my dreams far surpass them. BUT, I stopped dreaming like this when I threw STBX out. I've only had a few dreams that I can recall since. One of my hopes is that my dream life will one day get back to normal.

TattoodChinaDoll posted 10/22/2013 10:15 AM

I think the answer is that I have to throw TimeToManUp out or go on 6 month vacation. Maybe he'll agree to one.

Epic dreams? Yep, me, too! My chase scenes are legendary. In living colour and always amusing, though sometimes scary. I wouldn't have it any other way. I have actually awoken from dreams with great ideas for painting, decorating, etc.

TattoodChinaDoll posted 10/22/2013 10:42 AM

I compose in my dreams! But that is something that I never wake up remembering.

Pentup posted 10/22/2013 11:03 AM

Count me in. And like you, sometimes I can pinpoint where it came from, like last night's. others

woundedwidow posted 10/22/2013 11:40 AM

Include me in the group as well, especially regarding all the senses and being very vivid. I also have "serial" dreams, where I wake up for a few minutes, then fall back asleep and continue with the same dream. That's not so bad if it's a nice dream, but it's usually during a nightmare.

wildbananas posted 10/22/2013 13:12 PM

Me too! And this:

For some reason my dreams are so much more vivid and detailed and real when I nap.

Same here as well.

For years, I had vivid dreams about ex-asshat stalking me and trying to kill me... they were horrible. I'm so glad those are gone.

Yeah, I used to but the meds that help me sleep also kill most of them off. It's been great for my wife too, haven't woke her up with my leaping out of bed to attack vampire muppets or anything in years.

TattoodChinaDoll posted 10/22/2013 13:45 PM

I've had bad dreams about WH and will wake up and want to punch him. Lucky for him I've never done it. But I've stayed mad at dream him for te day.

I'm also a serial dreamer which is good when it's a nice dream!

all the time

circe posted 10/22/2013 14:20 PM

Yes I dream like that too! I have so much sensation in my dreams, including texture and color and feelings like humidity or heat. When I was a kid I dreamed I was crawling away in terror from something chasing me, and as I gripped the floor with my fingers I could feel the grit caught between the wood slats of the hardwood floor. When I woke up I could feel that grit crammed under my nails but as I woke up more the feeling faded and my nails were clean and normal.

When I was pregnant, hoooo boy. Lots of blood dreams, flood dreams, waves washing over me and stuff like that. I also dreamed of the Devil for the first time in my life (that dream came back during my second pregnancy) - it was like dreaming of 'ultimate terror' more than an actual demonic entity. Terrifying.

I only dream intensely maybe once a week though, or 3 times in a month all in a row and then not for another few weeks.

Yep all the time, from the time I was a little girl. They are in color and very detailed.
I remember my dreams also. Most are scary, panic stricken. I really don't think I ever had a good dream.
