Okay...so I'm running the Marine Corps Marathon in 4 days.... and I'm SO tired. This week is all about rest rest rest so I will do my last short run tomorrow... and then I won't run again until race day...

I work full-time as an accountant and am swamped at work.... all I want to do when I get off is crawl into bed....but I digress...

I have to go pick up my 14 month old daughter...and we need to do some grocery shopping (because she is staying with her nana this weekend and I want to make sure they have everything they need! Plus, if I don't do it tonight..tomorrow night is my last run (after work with the jogging stroller) and Friday I need to go to bed before my daughter because I'm getting up at like 4:30 O'shit o'clock. But, of course, I WON'T and will only get like 5 hours sleep!

Then after grocery shopping....we need to put them away....make dinner....clean-up...do bathtime.....pjs, lotion, powder, diaper, brush baby teeth... (I sing the ABC song as a distraction so that I can get all 9 teeth decently)....then we make a bottle of milk and she cuddles with me on the couch while she drinks that. Then its bedtime story time followed by tucking her in with her favorite "stuffies" (my nickname for stuffed animals....it's okay..you can laugh!) "Cancun" (large pink stuffed Chihuahua with big purple eyes and "Clarice" (stuffed female reindeer with pink embroidered scarf - apparently this is Rudolph's girlfriend), baby blanket, big girl blanket, I hum her a lullaby, turn on her turtle nightlight and mobile, tell her I love her and kiss her goodnight. WHEW..... then before *I* go to bed, I check on her and reposition her out of her oddball yoga position or corner that she has scooted into and re-tuck her in.

But, before I can go to bed, I need to fold part of Mount Laundry-more up before it avalanches on me! I haven't even packed one thing yet for the marathon trip this weekend. My dad and I drive up Saturday morning....

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! Okay..... back to work.

Toothbrush should come after that bottle shouldn't it?

Good luck with the running. I'd say break a leg but I think that's just for performers!

Right now the toothbrush routine is just to get her used to it....plus, I do it after her bath because we are already in the bathroom and it just makes logical sense to me. Otherwise, compiled with everything else I have to do every night by myself to prepare for the next day, it might slip my mind and she might go to bed with unbrushed teeth.... so I just do the best I can. I'm sure when she gets older and can brush her teeth more on her own with supervision, I can change up the routine and do it right before bed. I think I would forget my name some days I am always so busy.... UGH.

Thanks for the luck....I think I'm gonna need it! Yeah...breaking a leg sounds like bad luck to say to a runner!

You do sound overwhelmed! So much is involved with being a single parent. Hang in there, Honey, it will get better as she gets more independent.

Good luck on the race. You are an inspiration!!

Thank you. I'm excited....and nervous. But, I look forward to the challenge. I love the marathon distance because it really teaches you how to dig deep within yourself to find the strength and the will to keep moving forward.......even when everything in your being and physical self wants to quit and throw in the towel.

I feel like its so metaphoric for my life right now. Never give up and prove to all those that hurt you that you are a survivor and a fighter!

Shelly,

I wouldn't worry about training at this point - nothing will be gained. The laundry? It can wait! Really, most things can wait... the one thing you can really GAIN from is sleep, sleep, sleep! Your body will REALLY do well from as much rest as you can give it so don't fret about giving yourself the luxury of resting/sleeping as much as possible between now and then!

Funny enough...marathon is over and I still just wanna sleep!!! SO TIRED TODAY!

Well, my dad and I drove up together early Saturday morning. Had some chocolate chip pumpkin muffins on the way up and Gatorade. Stopped at the cracker barrel and had some yummy French toast and bacon for brunch and then lasagna for dinner with my relatives that we stayed with in Maryland. There was like a 2 hour wait for my bib at the expo and a 1 hour wait to get into the expo to get my shirt. We shopped around a bit but most of the good stuff was gone (no mediums left....just extra small sizes...YEAH RIGHT! ) so I just got a "Boston Strong" yellow and blue headband and a gel waste pack (cause I only have a hydration pack, not just a zip pack...which was perfect for race day so I could take my own gels).

Got up at 2:45(oh hell no) o'clock AM....drank 3 cups of coffee...had my usual banana and granola bar. Sat on the couch in my cousin's house and perused Facebook on my crackberry a while before getting ready and waking my dad up. We had a 40 minute drive to the metro and a 35 minute ride on the metro to the Pentagon start. By the time we got there we both thought we might burst we had to pee so bad! We had to wait in a HUGE porta potty line after walking over half a mile to the start..... it was bad. But, luckily, I never had to stop during the race! My strategy has worked twice in a row now. I don't eat or drink 3 hours prior to the race! Works like a charm! The marines parachuted in with a big American flag and the howitzer was shot off at 7:55am Sunday morning....and we were off! Took me over 20 minutes to cross the startline because of having 30,000 runners!

Weather was nice....a bit chilly but I prepared right. I wore a red sleeveless hoodie that had "C&C Runners" logo on it and "I love USA" covered up with a blue zip-up warm jacket, black spandex shorts, red, white & blue starred tutu (yes you read that right...I wore a TUTU), piper's white hat with red feather and matching red, white and blue clip headband, and red calf sleeves with patriotic wicking socks.

I looked the part and wanted the Marine's to know that I was running in their honor!

I got TONS of support on the course! Everyone loved my outfit! And, my goal was under 5! I got 4:56! And, the course was a bit long.... at 26.66!! EEP! But, was happy to finish strong.....

So I have run 3 marathons, 4:39, 5:05, and 4:56.... pretty consistent I would think! This momma's still got it!

I felt good. I wasn't able to train for this race like I used to be able to...or put in nearly as many miles.... so the time I got was respectable IMO....with only averaging 15 to 25 miles a week and only ONE 18 mile long run!

My hips and calves didn't start to feel shaky until about 17 miles in...and that's when I really had to dig deep. BUT, I ONLY took short walk breaks at the water stops long enough to drink my Gatorade (sometimes 2 cups at a time) and then would go again!) I didn't stop at the mile 25 water stop cause I thought I might not break 5 hours then.....just ran through it.... but when I saw others walking and I wanted to walk.....I resisted the urge.... and was proud of that. Thought of my Piper....and how I wanted to make her proud of me.

OORAH!!!!!!
