These guys have infested my basement. It's a carpeted space, two rooms. I thought it was some strange variety of spider, but it's actually a creepy thing called a CAMEL CRICKET. On the plus side, my new cat, my formerly feral friend is enjoying hunting them.

Oh no! Crickets are my worst nightmare. My grandma had one crawl in her ear when I was a wee lass. I still sleep with cotton balls in my ears whenever I hear them. *Shudder*

If you're at all superstitious, it's bad luck to kill crickets in the house.

I think some Chinese folks think they symbolize happiness and prosperity, and they used to keep them as pets and even used them for fights. Def different.

That's fine, the cats can do the dirty work

Screw superstition, they are dead if I or Kitty get to them. They are ugly and creepy.

I lose my Buddhist philosophy around certain bugs...

What about feeding crickets to large spiders?

OMG I hate those things!!!! My parents basement was infested with those creatures, they ended up getting an exterminator to get rid of them.

Fun fact: their eye sight/depth perception is so bad that when they try to hop away from you they actually hop AT you. One of the funniest things I've ever seen is my H screaming like a little girl as a gigantic cave cricket came right at him.

The first time I saw one I told WH there was a bug in the basement that looked like a horrible science experiment gone wrong because it looked like a cricket with spider legs. Sure enough they are also called spider crickets. Also cave crickets. Luckily they don't come upstairs in my house. I have hockey sticks strategically placed down into the basement to herd the little d-bags away from me.

The regular crickets do come upstairs and the cats will get them. Unfortunately they just kill them and rip them apart. Then my floor looks like cricket Normandy.

Reminds me of something that happened when DD was with us.
We have crickets where we live, being more rural than urban and we get them in the house occasionally.
Anyway DD picked up a stray kitten right before we moved and when he was about six months or so we got a few crickets in the house and we all watched as he stalked one in the living room. At one point he had it in his mouth but spit it out. I told DD "Watch. He's gonna eat it." He got it in his mouth again and CRUNCH. The look on DD's face was priceless. I think it was the legs sticking out of his mouth that got her.

They are disgusting. They need moisture though so try dehumidifying because that might help.

Google Dave Matthews Cave Cricket story, I'm laughing thinking about him telling it
